What is in the old WIOD-WFLC Building?

Anybody know what the old WIOD-WFLC building is being used for? Is it empty and haunted by old radio ghosts?

Wow, that post came as a surprise, it it my understanding WIOD/WFLC are no longer housed out on the 79th Street Causeway next to Channel 7? What's up with that? If that's so what a waist of a good broadcast facility, it's a huge building on the inside ample space for cluster's and it sits on it's own little private island so-to-speak with channel 7, 2 helipads included, the little island that it sits on is what initiated the call letters and it's name...........WIOD.............> "Wonderful Island Of Dream's.......! A big part of Miami Radio History!

It's empty. There hasn't been an occupant for years. Who knows whats going to happen with it.

Are / were the WIOD towers also on same island?

Yes and I believe they are still there.

WIOD is with the rest of the Clear Channel stations in Miramar and WFLC is with the rest of the Cox stations in Hollywood at I believe the building that used to house Y-100 a long time ago.

I remember listening to WIOD during hurricanes. Somehow they always stayed on. I guess it helped that the building was elevated.

To the best of my knowledge, not only are the WIOD towers still in place, but the main transmitter is still in that building. Other than that, it's in the same condition we left it in when Cox split in 1997.

Here's the inside scoop on the old WIOD building, yes it's still empty and has been for around 5 years now, the building itself is still owned by Clear Channel, the land the building sits on is owned by Sunbeam television Channel 7. However Clear Channel is disputing, claiming they own the building and the property where the building sits, enter a Miami developer who wants to buy it from Clear Channel, raise the building, and this should come as no surprise, place a rather large condo in it's place.

Meanwhile, Sunbeam, Clear, and the Miami developer have all sorts of different ideas on their agenda has to how best utilize the property, Sunbeam's pissed, Clear Channel doesn't care, and well, the developer, he's looking forward to having ,one way or another water front property with a big large building!

We're sure the local courts will have a go at it.....

There was word that WSVN was considering a move to the WTVJ building when there was a pending sale of 6 to WPLG and 10 was building that new facility. I guess all that is scrapped now that the sale fell apart.

That was mentioned in what I just heard, but now that Sunbeam and Clear Channel are into a heated property dispute I'm thinking all bet's are off.....
