What is it with WLWT and its weather people?

I just read a recap by Rick Bird of all the people who have gone through that station in the past few years. Weird.

Seems like they went through a similar revolving door back in the early 90s after Pat Barry left. I was a News 5 Weather Watcher at the time and the feature just kind of faded out without really notifying volunteers.

Channel 5's WX also sucks! When you have to bribe viewer's by paying them if you miss the temp...you are in trouble...

I actually liked the weather coverage they've had the past couple years. They certainly were on first when something was going on that involved radar, and they seemed to be on longer than other stations.

I also thought Jim O'Brien was doing a pretty good job. He never danced around and pretty much just got down to business.

I also don't really think they have to have as much weather education as might have been needed in the past. Seems to me that the station simply subscribes to a weather forecasting/modeling agency and they could simply read from that. The forecasts they can recieve now are very accurate, often down to the hour an event will arrive. I don't think these local people crunch numbers and come up with the timing of these events anymore; its all done by the models they subscribe to.

Maybe its simply a matter of computers eliminating TV meteorologists (or their importance) and the producers recognizing this and not paying for more than they have to.
