Must be a ridiculous promo because their
ratings are in the tank. Gotta' do
something..even if its assinine. Can't wait
to hear Bill Jackson sing his traffic report
about that nice tractor trailer on fire
with the driver still trapped inside.

Or to the tune of "The Benefit for Mr. Kite":
"The Benefit for Tom Delay,
has the court ruled today,
that conspiracy should be thrown away"

or How about Bobby Fuller's "I fought the law"

"Iraqis are voting in a parlimentary election"
"Sunnis and Shites are having fun"
"Voting with ballots and explosions"

Traffic sung to Gary Numan's"Cars"
"If you get in your car you won't get far on Stemmons"
"That's due to an accident at Mockingbird and Lemmon"

and weather "Sung to "Who'll stop the rain?" by CCR
"and I wonder, yes I wonder, when's is it gonna rain?"

Yes KLIF's brain trust certainly knows how to remind people why they don't tune in to the station.

Is this for real? Surely you are joking?

Surely?

In the past, I have used the name "The Shadow" or a variation on these boards.

So there is no confusion, I am not the person who posted the above message.

Great GoogaMooga!

Tony, very disturbing learning about this new imposter using your good name(s). It's like a Ball of confusion, Oh yeah, that's what the world is today, Woo, hey, hey.

I'm also sorry to hear about Alfred's passing. I send my best regards.

Alfred also sends his best ... from the depths of the Batcave.

My new Fortress of Solitude in Richardson is nice though.

Modernist design ... yes ...

Madman ... hey hey ... when do you work at KrrrrLA

"Serving the southland from Pasadena"

So CA ... not southeast Tejas ...

forgot .. 1980s?... loved it ...

Didn't you do "Smokin' Oldies" on KHJ at one time with Dave Hull?

I hate LA ... sorry ... San Francisco is great though.

1977 Tony, right out of High School. It was so much fun, and they were very popular with the Latino community. Art Laboe was the P.D., also loaned the station a couple million dollars. They were running "not for profit", after getting in trouble with the FCC. They also were making TONS of money too!

> Didn't you do "Smokin' Oldies" on KHJ at one time with Dave Hull?

Yes, right after RKO Radio changed the Calls in 1986 to KRTH AM. I was working full time at Transtar/Unistar, and did the Smokin' Oldies on the Weekend. The first Ten Years of Rock and Roll with Brother John 20 hours a day voice tracked, and Dave Hull as the morning man!

> I hate LA ... sorry ... San Francisco is great though.

Speaking about San Francisco and KR-la...

“San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair) was recorded in an all night session at the L.A. Sound Factory. The song was being played by coastal radio stations within days of its recording, with station KRLA playing the song six straight times when it first arrived. When the song was officially released in May of 1967 it was an instant hit going as high as #4 on the charts.”

Los Angeles is a very tough town to live in, it's better now that Tookie is gone. You don't have the Bloods & Crips in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?

Ever been to Miami? I came here to work with the Fed's in 1998. Radio Marti, the 100,000 watt most powerful U.S. AM flame thrower beamed into Cuba. Not only does Cuba jam the signal, but if you are caught listening you can go to jail. Now I'm suing the Government, hoping to leave here real soon. Don't trust the State Department Tony!

"K R L A, Pasadena ...time at the electronic tone ... 12 midnight" -- MMM, Tuna, Kasem, Reed, Simms, Stevens, Steele, and the names keep comin'

Come on ... you can't be YOUNGER than I am MadMan ... I have an image to keep.

Seriously, today's oldies stations cannot hold a candle to the old KRLA in Pasadena.

Yep, huge Hispanic audience ... Humble Harv ... what happenin' after he got out of prison ... remember his KRRRRRLA ... dedications and requests ... wow ...

KRLA went thought a lot ... a lot of changes ... through the years ... great jocks ... Shadoe Stevens, Charlie Tuna in the early 90s, B. Mitchel Reed ... Casey Kasem, Charlie O'Donnell, Emperor Hudson .. Bob Eubanks, Lee Baby Simms ... so many memories ...

I saw Tuna in the mid 60s when I was 13 or so ... at KOMA Oklahoma City. Spent hours on show prep. A friend of mine says he still does. Still great in his 60s.

Boy, did that Art make a bundle. Wow! Isn't he more than 90 years young now.

Did you know Huggy Boy" at KRTH? Heard he worked at KRTH into his '70s. What a personality!

I think you turned me on the Brother John's vignettes he did for the old WABC-FM and KABC-FM, the early album rock stations.

Actually, I don't really hate LA. Just never could trust air I could SEE.

You know.

What do they mean "sunny" when you cannot see the sun?

Did you ever catch "KHJ Car Radio"

Who thought THAT up? Could not have a focus group.

If so, they were residents of the "Twilight Zone".

Anyway, WHEN ARE YOU RETURNING TO LA?

Six straight ??

And, I thought Terrel Metheny held the record with a "triple-decker sound sandwich :). Kevin Metheny is his son and worked at WKY in 1971 before his run in with Howard Stern. Check Terrel at www.reelradio.com ...

Kevin is successful with a '70s and '80s format with CC.

My son is now a lawyer in San Francisco ... lives in Marin County.

I haven't looked for them lately MadMan.

But if you would like to visit, we could try to find them.

If ... if ... they don't find us first.

> Ever been to Miami?

No, I picture it like Mexico City ... "hands up ... spread 'em ... you're wanted by the po lice."

"Indiana Wants Me" (Lord I Can't Go Back There, so stupid me I went to Miami and got acquainted with the Miami Vice.")

I think that's the title.

We'll fortunately I am free ... free as a bird.

Are they still jamming it? Could I visit the Radio Marti if I visited?

Could I visit Fidel ... and smoke one with him?

I finally got to hear this singing news deal this morning and I don't know how else to put my thoughts into words about this subject aside from saying the following:

That was the gayest thing I have ever heard.

I thought it was funny... I would like to see how long DiRoxtra can keep it up..
Gay or not, give 'em credit for doing something funny for once...

It was kinda silly, but admittedly I tuned in and chuckled, then moved on.

Are you from the Southland Tony?. You sure know a lot about it!. In the 80's KR-la did it again with the Real Don Steele, Humble Harve, "the Burner", Huggy Boy and Emperor Bob doing Mornings. Wolfman overnights. AM 1110 was back!

> Yep, huge Hispanic audience ... Humble Harv ... what

He only spent three years in prison for MURDER. His wife was killing him!

I saw Charlie Tuna & the DeFranko family live at Montgomery Wards in Panorama City California. They performed Heartbeat, it's a Lovebeat right in the Parking lot.

Huggy Boy was KILLER at KR-la in the 80's with Steele, Hudson, Harve, and the Wolfman overnights. Sure I heard him at K-EARTH, Steele too. However both of them were on fire at Eleven Ten.

Yes, I remember that. Wait, no, I discussed that with the Batman?.

The jokes on you, that's not Air! I’m almost positive L.A. inspired the Hollies hit “ The Air that I Breathe”

> You know.

What?

> What do they mean "sunny" when you cannot see the sun?

It’s a local Hollywood thing. It’s kind’a hard to say “currently under poisonous skies”...

Catch it, I drove in it!. Actually I just posted something about Car Radio on the L.A. Radio board. My first Car only had an AM Radio & 8 Track. My Car loved Car Radio!

Executives at RKO Radio. Hey what a chain RKO was. Did you ever own a General Tire?.

I don’t know Terrel, but I am familiar with his son.

> My son is now a lawyer in San Francisco ... lives in Marin County.

That sounds great, one that he didn’t follow in your footsteps, and living in Marin County too. One of the nicest Counties in California. L.A. is a cesspool, but it’s my cesspool. Wait, I’m still in Miami-Dade, THE absolute worst place on Earth. Two direct hits by a Hurricane in five weeks, everything blew away.

R.Dean Taylor would be proud of you right about now. That was his name, wasn’t it?.

> Could I visit the Radio Marti if I visited?

It’s a top secret Federal operation, but they are listed in the phone book with the address. The Federal Guards are rental guards. Just pull up to the speaker and tell them to let you in. Half the time it works!.

> Could I visit Fidel ... and smoke one with him?

Oh forget him, what about me?.

Why I will!. And I’m still very upset about this new imposter, lurking the boards, pretending to be someone that you were pretending to be. This is not right, right?

Re: K R L A, Pasadena/ KR-la Pasadena

Emperor Bob Hudson claimed he discovered Casey Kassem. He was a great "Dodge" sheriff in those classic commercial of the 60's and 70's. "Ajax Airlines" was a great bit he did with Landry. His career ended abruptly when he said on the air that the astronauts were free basing Tang the day after the Challenger exploded. He was fired immediately. He never was heard from on the air in any capacity after that. A few years later he passed away.

Actually Emperor Bob passed away in 1997. I had a copy of their first hit "Ajax Liquor store". Tell me more about Ajax Airlines?. I met Ron Landry when Bob was doing Mornings, and Ron was doing afternoons at KGBS in Los Angeles. While I didn't remember the Tang comment, that sounds like the Emperor!

I thought Bob died in 1991. "Ajax Airlines" The bit was a guy calling the airlines asking about reservations, food, clothing restrictions. etc. He was drunk. He told the agent to hold that plane, the agent said "don't threaten me". The caller said "You beter hold that plane". The agent asked why. The caller said 'Because I'm the pilot". The surgery bit was good too. They were operating on some guy, then felt depressed because the guy died,a pause then Bob said, "Yeah but not as dead these cigarettes".
The Tang comment killed his career. He was untouchable due to the comment and his age. He never saw work in the media after that. Sad.
