What is meant by 'Limited commercial interruption'

For example according to wikipedia "On Veterans Day from 2001 through 2004, the American Broadcasting Company aired the film (Saving Private Ryan) uncut and with limited commercial interruption"

What does that mean? Does it mean commercials for some things were shown and not others, or that there were fewer commercials than usual, but still some, or something else?

It means "we have changed our normal every-5-minute commercial interruption to every-15-minutes but will not reduce the commercial load".

Alternate meaning: "Even though interruptions are less frequent you'd still be much better off renting this movie because we cut up the really good parts".

Thanks guys. I suspected it meant fewer commercials but I wasn't sure.

In this situation, would a station sell what spots there were for a premium?

Typically a program is presented "with limited commercial interruption" by one major sponsor. For example, CBS aired "Hallmark Hall of Fame" movies on Sunday evenings for years. Those movies would typically feature two Hallmark spots per break, with other sponsors inserted in the middle.

Now it means "fewer commercials, sponsored mainly by one organization, with a few other commercials thrown in."
Over time, it will change to mean "no more than 30 minutes of commercials per 30 minutes" and people will still say "well they didn't lie, time is a limit right there."

The Masters golf tournament has four commercial minutes
per hour; one of the Augusta National officials appears on
camera to make that point.

For many years, Travelers insurance and Cadillac were the exclusive TV sponsors; now there's a somewhat broader sponsorship of The Masters.

It's golf. Most of the audience is sound asleep anyway. ;D
