What is the Format?

Not sure if this is the best board for this question because it kind of borders on a few boards, so I apologize early. Anyway, was in an Old Navy store the other day with my wife and their internal muzak system had a great mix of music that I'm not sure now to describe. It was sort of like a funky pop sound, with jazzy soul techno sounds, if that makes any sense. I heard Jamiroquai - Seven Sunny Days in June (great great underplayed song), RuPaul - Supermodel, and some other tunes from artists like Prince, Bruno Mars, etc. that are all upbeat, funky, but without that darn predictable AC Daughtry-type sound. It's a sound I've heard at stores such as Old Navy but never on radio. Anyone know what that format would be called and why it hasn't been tried on radio (or has it?) Are there any good internet radio sources for that sound?
