What is the future of RTV?

I've seen This-TV but wasn't all that impressed with it. I'm not a big movie person.
The shows (old sitcoms) I might be interested in are all on at about 3AM. I wonder
how this schedule is working for THIS?

Clearly, the viewers in Indianapolis are even telling them to (bleep) off. ;D

Most of the Antenna TV affiliates appear to be on .2, according to the new list...like here in Cleveland, where Local TV's WJW/8 doesn't run any subchannels right now.

More signs that it's actually coming here: Time Warner Cable's latest legal notices list has it adding Antenna TV on 1/2 in the WJW service area.

Overall? Unless it gets more big group deals (like Cox), RTV is going to be killed by a combo of Antenna TV and Me-TV.

RTV has some really great shows. If they ever combined with Antenna TV or MeTV, I hope they would continue to air some of the Universal product that RTV uses. Suspense Theater (Kraft Mystery Theatre), Marcus Welby, Adam 12, Dragnet, Emergency!, Alfred Hitchcock Hour...they DO have some good stuff. The problem is that they never change anything.

Yeah I actually like RTV's shows the best. I like Emergency, Hulk, Magnum, Rockford, and a few others. On Antenna I plan to watch Too Close for Comfort and Threes Company, but that's about it. I have no interest in anything at all on This TV.

My interest in the Retro Television Network and ThisTV lies in some of their animated cartoon series and the occasional movie from ThisTV. I saw Filmation's "Ghostbusters" for the first time because of RTV after reading about the program and I'm glad to see "Gumby" again on RTV. I wanted to see "Get Smart" on RTV, but the local station did not add the sub-channel for RTV until after they lost the rights to present the program.

ThisTV presents "Inspector Gadget" and "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", both of which I love, as I have the first two volumes of the Sonic program on DVD. I hope ThisTV gets the rights to broadcast the other episodes of "Inspector Gadget", since they presented only 40 episodes out of 86 episodes. The very first episode of "Inspector Gadget" was never presented by ThisTV. I hope they bring back "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as well, since I was unable to record every episode due to the late timing of ThisTV becoming available in my area.

Question about RTV...

on WSPA-TV 7.2, I lose the volume frequently. I get it OTA, so I was wondering if it's the signal, but it is very strong. Picture is fine but no sound for about 30 seconds. Does anyone else have this? I know their engineering is not great.

I think RTV will be okay. It's been around awhile and has a lot of affiliates. Its programming doesn't change much, but that's not entirely a bad thing since viewers can count on its schedule. Keep in mind, there's nothing stopping stations from having both RTV and Antenna TV.

Getting a good signal for RTV over WKOB in NYC is difficult. Quality seems to vary, and it always seems to vanish late in the afternoon, even though they have posted a 24 hour schedule. Not impressed by the movies offered on THIS, seems as if the prime MGM content is never going to end up there. Can't wait for Antenna TV on 11.4 here. I do like the true classic programming best, from the B&W era through early 70s.

For some reason our local "This" affiliate will tape episodes of "Bat Masterson" on "This" and replay them over the .1 main channel late at night. The "This" logo is still on the bottom of the screen. The first time I saw it I thought I had tuned to the wrong channel by mistake.

I have seen promotional materials for "this" indicating that stations may take portions of programming for use on the affiliate's main channel. However, even though "this" uses the MGM film library, it seems that they don't use (perhaps don't have access to) the prime, best known, most popular materials.

The RTV future may be clouded, but I don't think they are going away. Here in
Atlanta WSB is pleased with RTV (even with their pitfalls). They plug a ton of
commercials into it and use the sub for local High School football games. I'm quite
sure it has turned into a money maker for them.

Here in Charlotte, NC we were supposed to get RTV but it never happened for some reason. i was looking forward to it.

I don't totally understand it, but that excludes the pre-86 MGM library that Ted Turner owns. Most of the movies they air are United Artists, I believe.

I hope they will eventually strike more library deals.

Two stations (from what I read here) will have dropped RTV for Antenna TV. I wonder if there were any more. RTV is on WKOB here in NYC. Even though their schedule lists programming on WKOB from 9am to 1 am, it always seems to vanish by 4:55pm. The signal power level drops form 55 to 65% where it normally hovers, all the way down to zero.

Antenna TV is on WPIX 11.4 here (with THIS TV and Estrella remaining exactly where they were). No technical issues at all thus far. I am wondering where Benny Hill is -- news reviews indicated Three Stooges all day Saturday and Benny Hill today. From what I can tell, they are running their normal Saturday schedule today, Sunday 1/2/11.

That is odd. We are getting Benny Hill here on WJW 8.2 Cleveland. It seems like a straight network feed to me.

Thanks! Benny Hill is on now. Earlier this Sunday morning we saw "Mustard Pancakes," "Critter Gitters" and "Curiosity Quest" -- all programs on the posted normal schedule for Saturdays.
