What is the Future of The Fan?

If you go and google the history of KRLD-FM. I will give you the history of the 105.3 frequency, but what is most interesting is what is said in the last line about the future of The Fan. Read it and see what you think.

Are you talking about the encylopedia part?

link please?

Well did it say?????

It said that CBS was not going to keep the format, which shocked me seeing that they are the flagship station of rthe cowboys. Maybe it was not true and they made them take it off.

Typical of the piss-poor level of coverage radio gets, where the sports media reporter doesn't understand ratings enough to ask 1 or 2 simple questions.

"Oh really David, you're beating KTCK in M18-34? What is the time spent listening like? How many of those 18-34's are listening from 6a-7p and how many are tuning into Ranger games (7p-11ish)?"

According to Barry Horn, they are beating the other two sports stations in 18-34 numbers and are quite proud of that.

I wouldn't put too much stock in anything Barry Horn says. He's a good writer, but knows very little about the media business. He has a hard time explaining ratings and just generally does a poor job on this beat. I think he'd be much happier actually covering a team.

This comment left on the DMN website pretty much sums it up...

How about an independent verification of that claim, Barry? Trusting the GM of the station is like asking Jerry if the Cowboys will be good, you're not going to get a straight answer.

They will be around for a little bit longer, but obviously you probably already know things are not as happy and well over at KRLD-FM as it should.

Talked to a couple of someones from there and they were sarcastically saying how much they LOVEd working there.

The Fan will continue for a little bit, but it's obvious something is getting in the way between having a good station and great station.

And let's see something else besides better talent.

"Flagships" mean nothing in radio, apparently. The Bone was the home of the Cowboys once...and then it went away. I'm hoping "the fail" follows suit. I've hated that station since the moment they changed formats. I've listend, like, three times since. For less than 5 seconds on two occasions and for one Cowboy game while I was at work and away from a TV. However, I'd much rather spend $100 on a mini TV to watch the game rather than give that station any more of my time.

THIS JUST IN : RICHIE WITT IS THE NEW OFFICIAL CO-HOST W/ NEWY SCRUGGS FROM 10-2.

Just heard Bigby make the announcement on air. He also mentioned there will more changes to the other shifts in the coming weeks. What does this mean for Jagger, Sean & Dan et al? I guess we'll just have to wait & see.

From Barry Horn:

"AND there appears a startling statistic buried in the ratings. I'm still trying to confirm that I am seeing what I am seeing. As soon as I do, I'll report on Cowboys game ratings at their new flagship. I'll just say this. They aren't real good.

There was a theory that becoming the official station of the Cowboys would help The Fan. Early returns show it hasn't helped anybody. Cowboys game ratings on the station are way down from last year when they were on The Ticket's bevy of stations (1310, 1700, 104.1, 93.3). And...

The Fan's October rating of 1.8 was its lowest since February's 1.3. It's ranking of 26 was its lowest since the new portable people meters went fully into effect."

Wow!

What a surprise, Barry!

What a revelation!

Since the station is called "The Fan", management should audience listeners as hosts.
