WHAT IS THE LONGEST?

I've been on the beach now for almost a year. in that lenght of time, I've only had maybe a dozen calls. I am not picky where my next job is. Everything I own can fit into my truck, so I can be anywhere for a job within a day.

I know I have the talent. (At least that's what every potential employer has told me.) My posting here has had almost 100+ hits every month. Plus I post my availability on AA every couple days.

My question: What is the longest you've been on the beach? A year without a job has me worrying if I should hang up the cans.

I'd say totally go for teaching or something, if you can't find a job. Teachers are in high demand especially special education teachers as well as math & science teachers. The world will ALWAYS need teachers. Do radio on the weekends somewhere or something. Plus, you don't ever need to move a lot being a teacher.

Yes, apply yourself.

If you are waiting around for that perfect radio job, you're in for a life long wait.
The industry (like many others) has downsized and will continue to do so.

Go back to school, get a degree in something that is secure and worthwhile.

Best advise someone ever told me! Start your own business! Be your OWN boss...teacher? please...Don't ever settle, do something you love and get paid for it, you only live once.

I would go into teaching but that would require more schooling and getting licensed. Any other suggestions?

Network. Contact EVERYONE you know and keep an open line of communication with them; you never know when something is going to open up. Be persistant with PD's, but don't pester. Highlight your ability to wear many hats. Is a part-time gig near where you are living now an option? This can help to keep you in the game.

Good luck! Hoepfully the pendulum will swing back in a positive direction for this industry...

I have networked. The problem is that I've only worked for one cluster. (And this tends to be a place where jocks come back to when they land on the beach.)

I've done the part-time thing, but with gas prices as high as they are I can't afford to drive an hour for only 3 or 4 hours a day. I know I'm not going to get rich doing radio, but it's what I love.

Many hats.. I wore them before and I can definitely fill many openings. But after a year on the beach and only a handful of interviews, now I'm beginning to understand why radio is in the state it is in.
