What Is the Obsession With DiOssie and Smerlas?

Why is it that they are on all the time? During the actual football season I guess you could use the argument they are "the pros" (snicker) so they are on. And from what I understood, they were going to be on Fridays and Mondays during the season. However, they or at least one of the was on just about every day. Isn't anyone else proficient in discussing FOO-BAW!!??

And lately, yeah I know the whole Spygate crap...and again, other people could discuss it...but why oh why with the whole Clemens thing and Spring Training underway, why are they still on?

ugh....

Has nothing to do with it. If it wasn't a "holiday" Ordway would be hosting and at least one of them, if not both, would still be on.

I don't think there is an obsession with Steve & Fred.
The Pats just made a SB run.
I think most of the other football "Experts" are on vacation or resting.
Soon Baseball can crank it up.
Spring training has not yet begun and Clemons is a medium issue at best.
Be careful what you wish for though, there is always LJ!

Fred and Steve are definitely better than the Commie and the Copy Catfish. By the way I heard a few minutes of Bob Halloran yesterday. What a motor mouthed weirdo.

I'm getting tired of Fred and Steve too, but I shudder to think of all the shows that Steve "I" Buckely will be on once baseball season is up and running.

I never knew that Craig Mustard was a Communist. Does that make Fred Smerlas a Fascist? Because, while I think Mustard is a liberal (of course, to some, that's the same as communist), Smerlas' politics are probably further to the right than Mustard's are to the left.

that said, DeOssie and Smerlas are terrible. I didn't even notice--was anyone else on with them yesterday? Pete? I turned it off after about a minute when I realized it might have been just them. Big O would have interjected something by then. I know the Belichick story is big but football season is over and once spring training gets kicked up, they'll disappear until late in the summer. Also, why not have Sean Grande and/or Cedric Maxwell? Steve Bulpett from the Herald? The Celtics are on fire, selling out every game and appeal to an affluent demographic, once again.

Buckley is definitely a solid co-host. There are talented people on other stations who would fit in well--Kevin Winter and Ryen Russillo, to name a pair...

Actually Mustard is more of a Marxist. He's too much of a wimp to be a Communist, but he's way beyond liberal. He's a smarmy, America-hating punk. Both he and his wife have their snouts in the public trough which explains why he's so pro tax increase.

Smerlas and Deossie are pretty bad, especially Smerlas, but they're better than Mustard and Johnson. I avoid their Saturday morning abortion like the plague. The only time I listen is when I'm not in control of the radio. Every rare time that I have that show inflicted on me, I hear Mustard complaining about the government and the same callers that I heard years ago. Johnson is just pathetic. 'EEI is supposed to be "Guy Radio". As the cardinal used to say on the Imus show "Who doesn't belong and why?"

the reason most people dislike mustard and johnson is because they actually have some different opinions that the other weei hosts and callers.

weei listeners want to be constantly reminded that tom brady is a gift from god, the red sox are the greatest franchise ever assembled, the celtics are going to win 70 games...and oh yeah..hillary clinton is satan and barack obama is probably a closet muslim.

blah blah blah.

i dont listen to m&j on a regular basis. but i am glad they bring something different to 'eei than the usual moronic drivel.

point out specific examples of how Mustard is a Marxist or how he hates America. I don't equate being critical of the government with hating America--dissent is a part of the American tradition. Also, being a public school teacher isn't what I'd exactly consider having a "snout in the public trough," but maybe I'm prejudiced because my wife's undergrad degree is in special ed. ;D

Ah....yes it has, it's going on right now in Florida. And the ClemEns story is quite big, not a "medium" issue.

I cant be a racist , because I am Black . Teachers like Mr Mustard , is why American School system SUCK !

I don't like to go off topic, but since we're there already...I finally got a chance to check out Lew and Mike this morning and after the recommendation from here, I was disappointed. Granted, I only heard one long segment, but at least half of it was spent discussing what went on down the dial on Dennis and Callahan (how they handled the Schilling/Shaughnessy flap). They offered their own opinions which were fine - not groundbreaking, but compelling enough, and then they opined about the manner in which they presumed D and C were covering the story. Then a caller (who I think bought time for his own show on the station at one point) called to continue denegrating D and C's treatment of the topic (of course he "only listened for a couple of minutes").

I'll give them another chance, but my first impression is that I would rather listen to Dennis and Callahan's analysis of the topic rather than Lew and Mike's analysis of Dennis and Callahan's analysis of the topic. Other than when they denegrate into schtick (as they did this AM with a soap opera actress) or when they talk about college sports I prefer Mike and Mike as a D and C alternative, and at certain times (big national stories), I prefer them altogether.

I was forced to listen to their hideous show for about an hour a couple of months back. I know that I could have stuck my fingers in my ears, but it didn't seem appropriate at the time. In the space of ONE HOUR, Mustard stated that only white people could be racists, he would vote for anyone as long as they have a "D" next to their name, and that he opposed any and all tax cuts, state or federal. That was just one hour.

My daughter is a public school teacher in Phoenix. After a few years in radio she earned a masters' degree and started teaching. She does not spend all of her waking hours crying about being overworked and underpaid. She readily admits that working 180 days a year is great. She really enjoys her job. Based on his complaints, Mustard doesn't seem to enjoy his. His radio career fell apart and he blames evil capitalists for all of his woes.

I don't have disdain for all liberals. Buckley and McAdam are two of my favorites. I don't worship conservatives either. I can't stand Callahan, Smerlas, and above all Larry Johnson, who claims that he's a conservative, but he also claims that he's a minister and an artist.

fair enough! I don't doubt his claim he's a minister but, as for cartoonist, my nephew in the 2nd grade could do just as good a job!
