What Is the Obsession With DiOssie and Smerlas?

BearFur said:
Ah....yes it has, it's going on right now in Florida. And the ClemEns story is quite big, not a "medium" issue.
I don't consider consider pitchers and catchers throwing a baseball around as spring training or exciting radio.
The days when the equipment truck leaving Fenway for Florida and generating excitement are way so over.
Like the Boston radio market itself, this stuff has become tired and old.
Spygate is a billion times more important than a NY Yankees pitchers alleged drug use.

The people who run Major League Baseball disagree with you. I think I'll take their definition.

A few million Red Sox fans disagree with you.

Arbitron ratings disagree with you. Boston is, what, the 6th or 7th biggest market?

Dan Burton, the tool from Indiana...is that you?

The United States Government disagrees with you. I haven't seen Bellichick summoned to D.C., have you?

It's funny, as humans we are all entitled to our own views and opinions....but when placed up against facts....some opinions just don't cut da mustard, do they?

Oh, and BTW, what law did Bellichick break exactly? I can tell ya what law(s) Clemens broke, but I just can't figure out which law Billy broke.

uh. what does that have to do with anything?

congress is NOT a court of law.

if the patriots acted in such a way that the integrity of the game was compromised, congress has a right, an obligation to look in to it.

go read the us constitution. the congress has the authority to regulate interstate commerce. the nfl just so happens to have an anti-trust exemption (which should be yanked anyway)

He stated that Spygate was worse than Clemens' illegal drug use, witness tampering, and committing perjury.

I then questioned how a person who simply broke a rule - not a law - is worse than someone who broke federal law.

Maybe you can answer?

I have another question. Larry Johnson is on the Big Show today. Why is he ever on, regardless of the date. He must have something on Ordway. Or is 'EEI afraid he'll yell racism.

Deossie is pretty awful, but he's better than the Putrid Preacher, as David Scott calls him.

lj isnt *that bad*

what does everyone have against him. all i see are people repeating the same two things on here:

1. he has a high voice. true his voice isnt great, but it isnt as bad as some others on the radio.

2. he is a bad cartoonist. maybe that is true. i have no idea. but it has nothing to do with his radio skills

In addition to his high voice, he also has an effiminate voice, a bad Boston accent, and bad grammar. The way he sucks up to every one on the station (especially Ordway) is sickening. He's obviously uneducated but claims to be some sort of minister. He knows no more about sports than the average person who reads the sports pages. He has never played, written about, or covered any sport. He has no inside or technical information.

He is not just a bad cartoonist, he's a plagiarist. Bruce Allen on Boston Sports Media Watch published about two dozen of LJ's "drawings" side by side with the original drawings he traced. Yet he holds himself up as a man of God.

His worst fault is that he tries to be funny and he isn't. He reminds me of a 12 year old trying to be the class clown. He makes one stupid remark after another and won't stop.

Now I'm curious to hear just exactly what his "radio skills" consist of. He can't even read the phone numbers.

One thing that is funny, is when he says something that apparently he thought would get a laugh...and when it's glossed over by everyone, he thinks that they didn't hear him, so he says it again....

What a fraud.

LJ doesn't have THAT high a voice. Tony Maz's voice is a lot higher. The "imitation" of LJ that I heard on the gag bit that started a segment didn't sound anything like him.

but they couldn't get anyone else? It's a Tuesday, a slow day. I know a lot of reporters are in Florida but there have to be to be many people better than LJ.

good point about the tracing, too.

I guess whiney would be a more appropriate description of LJ's voice. Tony's voice is high, but he has something to say. He covers the team, knows the coaches and players. He has inside information that you can't get at your local coffee shop.

They did a show last week with Rob Bradford in Florida. As one whiner line caller asked, if they can do that why is LJ ever on the show?

As far as the tracing, no one probably cares. He was, however, let go from SI.com shortly after Bruce Allen's piece appeared on BSMW. Maybe just a coincidence, but most of the drawings Bruce showed were from SI.com. That garbage he puts on 'EEI's website isn't traced, it's just awful.

I wonder what church Larry serves and in what capacity so that he is so readily available on week days/week-ends. I believe that it is United Methodist denomination. Does anyone have an age range for him? Whenever he qoutes scripture or refers to bible stories, they are usually the most basic and rudimentary...ones that anyone who has walked by a Sunday School class 3 times could spout. The context is also rather basic or sometimes mis-applied.

Just not sure what qualifies him as a sports radio personality (a loose description)...did he go to broadcasting school? Did he coach? Play?
I suppose it could be the same qualifications as and sports writer/reporter (Ordway eg)...interest. But the weak humor, whining voice make for uncompelling radio in my experience. Looking for excellence in cartooning/radio/ministry...just don't see it. Be excellent in SOMETHING eh? Pick ONE and do it well. Give me John W, Mike M or John R anyday first. Just my 2 cents.

And with football essentially over, time for Steve and Fred to go back to the restaurant business till July.

Maybe LJ has an office in the back of that auto garage in Canton he mentions every 5 minutes....that way he can lick Michelle from Canton's boots whenever he wants.

Also, I wish media outlets would follow a rule for their given means of broadcasting. By this I mean if you have a sports writer for a newspaper-make sure they know how to write, that's the most important thing. If you have a newsreporter on TV-make sure they are at least somewhat attractive and photogenec along with the abilitiy to do the job. And if you have a radio personality, make sure they have a nice broadcasting voice along with knowledge of what they are supposed to be talking about, and a sense of humor.

I've never bought the 'Reverend" crap. Years ago a few of us sent in $5 each to a magazine and we all received certificates ordaining us as ministers in the "Church of America". We called each other reverend for a few days and got a good laugh out of it. I suspect that that's pretty much the same credential that LJ has. Where I come from, a minister or priest has at least a graduate degree in theology or religious studies. I feel pretty certain in thinking that LJ has no such education.

On the Big Show a few years back, they had his high school yearbook and I believe it was from the mid-sixties, which would make him about 60.

He ruined the Big Show yesterday; second time this week. With only three people on the show, his output of stupid remarks increased exponentially. I just don't get it. I would think that a lot of Boston Sports personalities would want to be on the highest rated drive time show in the market.

I thought that Brett and Andy did the scheduling. They don't seem to like him very much.
