What is the origin of Salsoul's name?

Now that they're celebrating their 30 years I ask: Did they play soul music along with salsa at the beginning? ???

Before that, what was their format? (It couldn't only be broadcasting the english audio track of TV shows ;))

When did WPRM first sign on?

What other stations, besides WKAQ-FM and WPRM were "born" in 1978?

Also: in their 30 anniversary promo a segment from a 1978 promo is featured and the announcer's voice sounds like this (from WAPA-TV 1970's vintage):

It played dance (think Donna Summer) and salsa, but all rhythmic music in PR used to be called soul. It continued to play that mix July of 1985. By that time, the station was pretty much dead last in the market. I joined the station and we killed the English stuff, and reduced the current playlist from 87 to around 20, and the library from 1500 to abobut 400. By September it was #1, and continued to be #1 for the next 22 years which is a record for a top 50 market FM in the US.

Beautiful music (PRM means Puerto Rico Music). Te station had been used most for the SCA broadcast of background music, it's main source of revenue.

I think it was 1959 or 1960, with a transmitter site at the netrance to Old San Juan near the PR Capitol building.

WKAQ FM was born in the 60's or late 50's. The most significant call and format change of 1978 was WSRA changing to WZNT on December 29 and format from Beautiful to all, 100% salsa. That station went from a 4 share to a 33.5% share in 90 days.
