What is The2300?

The 2300 if I heard correctly from a friend is when people tweet on twitter at 11pm. I don't have the full story though. Look up #2300 on google or something maybe it will help.

The magazine you refer to from the 80's was called "2600", now available in an online version only. The name came from the 2600 hz. tone hackers used to make free long distance calls. First, a legitimate toll call was dialed. Before the called party answered, the 2600 hz. tone was sent by the calling party, causing the in-process call to disconnect. However, the calling party was still connected to the AT&T long distance tandem circuit and network. Calling party could then use his "BlueBox" to send multi-freq tones (different frequencies than normal DFMF/touch tones...but sounded similar) to the network. The call was now past the AT&T billing equipment...so the calls were free. FREE until the FBI eventually showed up at your door!!!

Now, all signaling is done "out-of-band", so no matter what frequencies you send down the phone line, none of it matters to the switching equipment.

Wow, I know WAAAAAY too much about this for my own good!!! :)

I've come to find out, upon following Greggo on Twitter (@TCUWhiteTrash) that there are listeners that are actually reserving secondary Twitter accounts with usernames that include the number "2300" in them. Apparently, simply using the #2300 hashtag is just not enough.

Well...I was close.

My Cousin Bob Cummings got caught doing that. Got a major fine and derailed his acting career.
