What Is Up With All These New Talks Show This Season??

There like 4 new talk shows this season I hate talk shows so much. It seem like anybody who wants a talk show can get one what is up with all these new boring talk shows?? Here in Houston 3 channels have like a 4hr block of talk shows it would be so much better to start a national tv channel just for talk shows.

This is the void created by the absence of Oprah. Everyone is hoping they can find the next superstar of the daytime talk world. So far it doesn't seem to have panned out.

I agree, but Oprah's been off a year. The 2011-12 season is when there should've been a food fight. Didn't Oprah announce over she was quitting a year prior? Not enough time to get ready?

The last time there was a huge daytime vacuum was when Rosie O'Donnell ceased her show in 2002. The next year Caroline Rhea (Rosie's hand-picked successor) tried to take over the spot but failed. Next season (2003-04) Living it Up! with Ali & Jack, Sharon Osbourne and Ellen DeGeneres started new programs. Only Ellen stands today.

If you think this amount of daytime talk shows is bad, look at the amount of late night talk shows within the last couple of years. It's ridiculous to say the least.

This year it's talk shows. Other years it's court shows. Or game shows. Or "Cheaters" and "COPS" 'reality' shows.
It's all just cycles.

Katie could sell but as far as I know she's been painted as the White Oprah since her time on the Today Show and NBC News.

I don't remember off the top of my head, when there were many new talk shows. I know in the 1995-96 season, every single talk show that debuted that season got cancelled. I do remember Charles Perez (though his show debuted in the middle of the 1994-95 season), Shirley (from Canada), Carnie Wilson, Tempestt Bledsoe, Gabrielle Carteris, & many others debuted that season, & all got cancelled by the end of the season. In the Chicago market, Gabrielle was cancelled first, then Carnie, I believe Shirley, & others. Charles Perez & Tempestt Bledsoe were one of the last shows to be cancelled. As for the new season, more talk shows are now in HD, including Maury, Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos, & Rachel Ray. For someone like Jeremy Kyle, I don't know how often he's flying between London, England (if that's where his UK show originates) & New York for his 2 talk shows. I hear Anderson Cooper isn't doing well in the ratings, & might get cancelled by the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Cunningham gets cancelled as well. His show barely did well overall when it was just on Tribune stations. It's anyone's guess if he'll do any better on the CW Daytime.

This may be a bit of a shock to know, but having a successful talk show is often fairly profitable for all parties involved.

Seattle I don't think ever had the "Shirley" talk show-IIRC. Gabrielle was on KCPQ, Charles Perez on KTZZ, Carnie and Tempestt on KIRO [when it was UPN].

I think that if any of these new talk show hosts become the White Oprah, it will be Ellen. As mentioned, she has had a talk show for 10 seasons now, which is a long time compared to all the others. And in many markets, including Boston, she even took Oprah's old time slot, with Katie immediately preceding. WCVB-TV does air a majority of the talk shows (Kelly & Michael, Steve Harvey, The View, Katie, and Ellen) and that has always been one of their priorities ever since Oprah debuted on there in 1987.

All of these new talk shows may see one less show. According to a thread on here, The Jeff Probst Show is not doing well. Speculation is already growing of a cancellation.

What really has me scratching my head is Ricki Lake coming back---after what, 10 years off?----and, Arsenio coming back next year after **20** years away.

What is it that makes TPTB think that folks will flock back?

Somebody 'splain?

DJboutit must miss those syndicated afterschool cartoons. :)

Someone mentioned Gabrielle and Tempestt. What are they (and Bertice Berry) up to these days?

Tempestt Bledsoe is a co-star on NBC show Guys with Kids playing Anthony Anderson's wife

Shows you how shallow the Hollyweird talent pool is, doesn't it?

The economics of TV are different (more syndication opportunities thanks to CW/MyNetwork affiliates, DTV subchannels, and cable) and they probably don't have to attract the same amount of viewers to be viable/profitable.

Though the better question is...why are you so opposed to them coming back? If Regis Philbin can't stay away, why should they?

I only said that I am scratching my head, as in, I don't understand----the long time off, yet the publicity for their return.....many folk today don't even know that they had shows before (or even know who they are), and were taken off (for whatever reason).

Few singers or actors go away for so long, yet have successful returns.

Maybe it's me....
