What is up with cbs and emmis refusing to admit mistakes and make changes

Well wxrk listen to it it sucks and there abysmal numbers why do they not admit a mistake and overhaul the format(make it like kroq at the very least your sister station) and the same goes for 101.9.

Can't emmis see it doesn't work for christ sakes and they also don't get it movin does not work in los angeles but they continue to pay rick ungodly cash for a station going no where and last but not least cbs and there god awful rhythmic format in phoenix kzon i mean they are cutting staff right and left and up and down at that station there again i ask why can't these suits realize there mistakes and move on and tweak or overhaul or blowup or whatever i do not understand???

Because that's the corporate way in 2008, unfortunately. Never admit failure...*especially* if you're failing. Blame it on someone else...the PPM's, ipods, internet radio, wardrobe malfunctions, anything except your own corporate failures and short-sightedness. Eliminate any rational thought and *especially* any creative thought, and follow what the consultants and the "research" and the decisions of clueless corporate suits, over and over again no matter how low the numbers go. Then, when things bottom out, fire the people who tried their best to keep a sinking ship afloat and who merely followed orders from above (if you fire them just before the holidays, even better!), and continue to reward failure higher up on the food chain.

That's corporate radio in 2008. Happy Holidays!

Even clinton finally admitted his mistake with monica and bush i know it is 7 years to late he finally admitted some mistakes like sayin dead or alive in refernce to osama bin laden and also he admitted fault with bring it on so if these men of power can admit mistakes why can't these corporate suits???

Oh my bad they think we actually want to here this crap yeah right

Anyone on this board could program any of the 3 aforementioned stations better then them(wxrk, wrxp, kzon)

Do they really think we want to here grandpa rock on 101.9 or wxrk don't they realize it is almost 2009 so sad!!!

I think CBS admitted it was wrong when it flipped WCBS to Jack. That was one of the first changes Dan Mason did. I think they admitted mistakes with 102.7 for a while. K-rock is different. They like the male demos, but they don't like the numbers. But small male demos are better than none, or better than stealing audience away from Fresh. So they're stuck. I thought they made KROQ's PD some kind of VP to oversee the rock stations. But NY is not LA. What works there won't work in NY. And KROQ has the heritage thing going for it. The only thing K-Rock has in NY is Opie & Anthony. And even that's over.

As for Emmis, I think Dan Halyburton walked the plank last week on RXP. I don't know for a fact, but with his background, I bet he suggested flipping to country at some point, and everyone told him he was nuts. So he's gone. In LA, Emmis is in a long term deal with Dees. So much for investing in big name talent. It'll bite you in the butt every time. I bet that 95% of the people living in LA still think they play country music on that frequency, and haven't even sampled the new format. That's part of the problem in making a format flip today. If a tree falls in a forest, and no one's around, does it make a sound?

Both of these situations are very complicated. With RXP, it was doomed from the start. The demo for this music wouldn't listen to traditional radio if it was the only thing available. So this just proved it's a waste of time to try. They might as well go back to smooth jazz, or some urban variation on it.

The issue isn't admitting mistakes, it's creating a blueprint for what to do next. Just making changes isn't enough. No one knows what to do, because nothing anyone has done (in any market, regardless of ownership) has worked. If anyone can point to a success story in another market that might work in NY, speak now. But everything either is already being done, or it was done someplace else and failed. Not a lot of choice, other than moving some successful AM formats to FM, and I believe that idea is on the table next.

WXRK sounds nothing like KROQ. If it did, maybe the ratings would improve. I mean, I don't think they're going to get phenomenal ratings no matter what they do, but I think they could do a much better job of serving their target demo. They should expand their playlist while also making their sound more focused. An edgy, new music-oriented Active Rock sound would be the best way to go, but bringing the K-Rock 2 format to the main channel could work too.

For the record, when K-Rock first came back, they openly admitted that Free FM was a mistake. Of course, it quickly became clear that this was another one. Two wrongs don't make a right.

If columbus ohio can have a cool alt station for years cd 101 which has never set the world on fire with numbers why can't the #1 market?

None of these suits care what we think and also i don't think cbs cares about wxrk.
