What is WRNO??

Let me get this straight.

So they don't carry the drunken mayor press conference... they cut the Gov's conference so they can get the sponsored traffic in, then the "carpetbagger" from "yankee-ville," Oster-Gach" could beg for calls, this after the two idiot in the morning mock Gustov as a "gay man visiting the Decadence Festival." How many times in 4 hours can you say "I'm just sayin'," and "nice cackle," and... who give a crap.

They have stayed syndicated through most of what's going on and they mock the situation. What are they?
They seem understaffed and poorly directed.
Is the Bob Chris guy screwing this up so bad?
PLEASE, I want my Rock Of New Orleans back!
I tried to listen... IMPOSSIBLE.
'RNO is "pretending" to be a "newsmaker."
It's sad. Real media competition would have been nice.
Pathetic effort.
Oh, but the three transplants will be rooming together... Oh my, what commitment.
That said, I'm sure that CC will bring in 20 people who don't know crap about out area from their other stations to cover the storm.
Are they still angry about the 3 Marconi's"the other guys got?"
Bad words. Really, really bad words.

I hope the local people who work for the evil empire know what they are going to get...

well you know, if it does stay a Cat 4 and does a direct hit, that satellite dish will float away.. so the syndicated stuff wont last long..

On a more serious thought, My thoughts and prayers are with everyone from Pensacola, to Texas which this storm could hit depending on where it lands.

Take Care Y'all!

Everything's cool in Pensacola right now. The beaches were beautiful today and packed with Labor Day crowds from Destin to Gulf Shores. People quit stockpiling gas on Thursday. Now the hotel rooms are filling up with evacuees from Louisiana. The news people say we are going to be opening shelters for evacuees tomorrow.
I am hearing some horror stories about traffic though. 12-16 hours to make the 200 mile drive from Louisiana!?! I don't care how bad the storm is, I'd just assume stay home instead of driving for 12 hours.

WRNO is garbage

To answer the question posed, WRNO is crap.

WRNO is another right wing spin machine promoting Republican candidates telling people who to vote for and throwing stones at dissenting opinions.

The Rock of New Orleans was killed by Clear Channel.

So sayeth Rex.

Actually, they've been live since Saturday morning, with the exception of one morning of Coast to Coast. Get your facts straight.

You don't like it, fine. But they've had plenty of calls and plenty of people saying thanks for being there. So, obviously, someone is listening.

Woah now boys and girls ! lets relax for a moment. Several of us camped out the entire week at the station going 24/7 about the storm.
Many folks did outstanding work in the market as we all have a stake in this helping folks when needed. AS far as listening ? 14 lines deep all day and night told me folks were listening. I'm not bangoing the bong- go's on this but lets be fair about all the hard work the entire market did.

Also I set the record for eating beenie -weenies with crackers. The WRNO talk teams slepted in studios the entire week. Our tech staff was off the charts solid and we did what we had to do.

Tip your hat to all that went above and beyond the call at any station but lets be nice about it all ok.

Now anyone for a nice can of beenie weenies and crackers ???

Hope all are safe and well as you returned home.

GV

G-man V-man? Don't get your panties in a knot. I know folks down here in Terrebonne that would kill for a few cans of beenie weenies and eat 'em cold! It's better than FEMA's doing helping us folks out. And let's not forget Entergy, how many times do I have to hear "the next couple of days"? Both are jokes, as we sit here and boil our water. Wish I had SLECA.

I listened in my truck at some friends in Donaldsonville (not the safest place during the storm) to both RNO and WWL after the storm. My only complaint with RNO was the out-of-town people continuously mispronounced things and towns. I nearly put a bullet in my head after hearing over and over about "Lakeview Mall" on Causeway, obviously they meant Lakeside Shopping Center. And the urban station jocks trying to interject their humor when they had their turn, please. If I want lame, obnoxious attempts at jokes on a news station, I can listen to Bob Mitchell. When their pronounciation is incorrect, help a brother, and let them know. The new folks have to learn by getting tossed into the boil but some really seemed out of place.

Sleeping on the floor? Hope it was carpeted at least. Thought CC would done better for their employees who stayed behind, at least blow-up mattresses or something. Beenie Weenies and a bottle of water right now sounds like a dinner at Pascal's Manale to me.

BayouBlue, since you brought up Donaldsonville, did anyone hear the caller from Donaldsonville talk to John Osterlind?

Caller: This is _______ from Donaldsonville. I need to tell you what's going on down here.

Osterlind: Go ahead.

Caller: There's no water in Donaldsonville. There's no ice in Donaldsonville. We have babies here...

Osterlind: Get the Mayor of Donaldson on the phone. There's babies dying in Donaldson and we're not doing anything about it. We need to get Donaldson some help NOW.

Now, Donaldsonville is not New Orleans, but it's still a decent sized town. You can't drive to Baton Rouge without seeing exits for it. To have lived here and been on the air for months and not know how to pronounce or even what the city names are, there's no excuse for that. I know he was on the air a long time. I get that conditions were brutal. But, there is no excuse for making dumb mistakes.

And, when you make a mistake, correct yourself.

Aside from Rush, Hannity and Gerry V, RNO has ZERO credibility.

Mr B.Blue. Not complaining as it was a pleasure helping the folks. The Beenie Weenie reference was a reference to how one must adapt to certain circumstances. ( I started lovin em ...add a lil hot sauce and pepper and wah la ! a masterpiece.)

I just want to make sure that people knew the efforts so many took part in as i sensed some negative comments to some media folks.
God forbid another major storm hits us. If it did I know lots of folks that would do whatever it took to help folks out.

So no shorts in a wad here my friend.Just making sure folks were being " jammed up " with the wrong negative comments.

Hope all is well...( My Hugh Hefner silky pj's were a major hit as i walked around the building...)

Hey Nola, I heard that call. I cringed every time they said Donaldson instead of Donaldsonville. The "lady" on the phone also mentioned all the feces backing up in the toilet. I was wondering why she thought that calling the station would help. Almost everyone was without electricity, some without water. I was not about to call a radio station to complain. They can't get my water & lights working. Did the mayor or anyone from Donaldsonville ever respond to that call?

Gerry, I understand their true attempt to get information across in a tough situation was sincere but what came across is, many had no clue. I wouldn't believe for a second there wasn't anyone at the station that is from here that could've corrected them. Since Nash Roberts' retirement, I trust Bob Breck and was glad to catch him on with the others from Channel 8. Lord knows those 8 inch b&w TVs with wabitt ears don't get good reception up here and eat batteries quicker than you eat beenie weenies.

Most of the time radio is all we have for a source of what's going on and to hear supposed news people trying to interject humor at a bad time, upper management needs to step in and say 'hey enough'. I listened to both stations but hands down, WWL did a better job of informing the public. Not that RNO did a bad one but in many occasions, I'd hear these music folks on, running their mouths, laughing and think WTF are they talking about? I'm sitting there during the storm wondering if a tornado or a tree is going to take me out. I'm not looking for jokes. It ain't much fun sitting around sweating like a rented mule down in the French Quarter. It's easy to sit in an air conditioned room and run their mouths. But until they live it, they just don't know.

I enjoyed listening to you and think you did a creditable job. I get your wit and it's well placed. I could have listened to you everytime I was out in the truck. You know the area. I think people identify with you. Maybe I was listening at the wrong times but I heard what I heard and it wasn't music to many people's ears. Throwing someone on because they are body doesn't cut it especially when they don't know what they are talking about and that's management's fault. People appreciate the effort from radio but not when we're poked fun at and that's how it came across. Case in point, Obama and the pig lipstick, a poor timed comment.

I enjoy your shows on Saturday and Sunday, when I get to listen and will continue in the future. And as far as the silky Hugh Hefner pj's, I'm sure you would have made him proud. Any chance of an autographed picture of one? Time to go refuel the generator. Could you find us an Entergy truck?

Picture for you ? Its in the mail .Just don't make fun of my slippers and long tip smokes ok ? I'm very sensitive about that.. ::)

I saw V the other day in the hall at work. They were pink. Both the smokes and slippers.

Very fetching. Matched his rosey cheeks, the devil.

WRNO already jumped the shark twice; once in 1991 with that infernal "Z-Rock", again in 2006 with the talk format.

And it seems third time's the charm with Rush Radio, which got poor Andre Trevigne kicked to the curb!! (On second thought, I take it back; Andre was worth listening to on The Channel Formerly Known As The Rock Of New Orleans Formerly Known As The New99.5fm.com.)

(J.M. Costello III still dervishly whirling in his coffin... :p)
