What is wrong with Alternative radio?

I've noticed the last few books that Alternative radio is not performing very well.

KPNT in St. Louis, is at the lowest point I've ever seen it. So, with crap ratings, are they really making money. A good signal they have over St. Louis wouldn't a better format work? I know Chicago is having them same problems.

How long until broadcast companies start pulling the plug on their alternative stations?

I think it comes down to having decent product. Right now the music just isn't there. And many alternative stations are playing lots of gold titles to cover the weak current product. I think it will come back once there is decent product to play.
