What is wrong with Columbus?

First, this is a big market. We need to bring some hot stations in here. First of all, WNCI sucks on ice. They pass as a CHR but during the day they sound similar to 97.1 FM. If we could maybe get rid of the simulcast from 95.5 & 102.3 and change 102.3 to a CHR station that would be great but the problem is that it's a horrible signal and wouldn't do very well. Don't even get me started with "Power 107.5". That is one of the most ghetto, ethnic, african-american station I've ever heard! Listening to the sounds of Wendy Brown "holding it down" and Sean Anthony's ghetto self makes me wanna puke. It is truly a blessing I can pick up Hot 1029 from Dayton otherwise I wouldn't listen to the radio. It's an embarrassment that if Channel945 (from Dayton) was in Columbus it would kick WNCI around if it wasn't clear channel and I don't think 102.9 would do bad but they get small Columbus ratings anyway. Channel 945 is a better CHR anyway and it's a shame that we got 2 CHR Rhythmics in a small market when Columbus has one CHR and one Urban. It wouldn't be bad if we could get a rhythmic in Columbus but I don't know. I think Radio One should get a CHR station to go aganist WNCI and see how it does after 5 months. Now, Z 103 made a very stupid move. Just when they were getting listeners they switch to Mexican. I think that they should've stayed as Urban or switched to the Hurban Format as Z 103- Reggaeton & Rap or something that might be able to keep some of their younger audience. Now for their older audience, they might as well kiss them goodbye cause they're gone to 1075. Z 103 reminds me of my old station on the internet. Always off air. Always was cheap. Always stiffs. Although, I did listen to Z 103 instead of Power 1075 since their ghettoness has made me turn it off. I think they should switch 107 to Cincinnati and bring the wiz here to Columbus. Does anybody see where I'm coming from? Also, why can't they bring a kiss station to Columbus?

First of all, you cannot put a station on 102.3 because it's a repeater/translator, and it's against FCC rules to run it as a seperate station, it has to repeat a licensed station. Power 107 is going after exactly who they want with that format, after all they are owned by a black owned company. Third of all Channel 945 is a Clear Channel Station, and they won't put a CHR up against a CHR in the same town. WNCI is as close to a "kiss" station we are going to get because of the heritage that WNCI has in this market. CC doesn't change every CHR station to a kiss automatically. WNCI has a good thing going since they are #1 in the latest book. Now if they were 15th, they would change it. Why change something that is obviously WORKING!!!!

The "kiss" format is formulaic corporate radio at its worst. The same liners in every market, the same music in every market, and the same personalities in every market, via the magic of voicetracking. Love them or hate them, WNCI is live and local, which is rare within the CC empire (especially in a mid-size market). That is something to be appreciatie for.

Re: The Answer

As to the original poster...
Dude, I feel your pain as do most of us who frequent here.

As for columbusradio, you are correct although I suspect you may be a CC employee.

The way I see it, Columbus needs a station to go up against both WNCI and Power 107. If you listen closely, Power rarely plays artists Like Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, and the Pussycat Dolls. WNCI on the other hand will rarely play more than one 50 Cent song and they won't even play that song until it's been out on the radio (like power 107) for at least 2-3 months.

Both stations IMO discriminate. A Rhythmic CHR that would combine the best qualities of both stations while avoiding both of their mistakes, I believe could make an impact on this market.

I truly believe it can be done but as the same problem that persists year after year, who has the signal and the balls to do it?
