What kind of station does NJ need?

I would say NJ needs a dance station but it's actually Philly that needs that.

A nice Mainstream CHR would be nice for Trenton since WPST moved to 94.5, rendering it unlistenable for me.

I would like to see how a Mainstream CHR would perform in Atlantic City since the closest thing they have is Urban-flavored "Rhythmic" CHR. But between that and the Adult Contemporary station, there may no longer be room down there for a Mainstream. Could still be fun to watch though.

New Jersey is NOT one market. One station does not cover and serve the entire state (101.5 included) making any discussion of this moot.

If you want to ask what station the Atlantic City area or Monmouth/Ocean area need that's one thing. It's doubtful anybody up in Sussex (outside of the people here) know what WZBZ is, nor do I doubt anybody in Millville knows what WSUS is.
______________

Monmouth/Ocean really needs a station that targets the male population. Take away the rimshots, the classic rockers, WRAT and G Rock Radio (which really doesn't target the male demographic per se), and look at the ratings books - there's a lot of men that aren't listening to the radio. Why? A couple of big format holes, that's why.

This market could use both an Urban station and a Modern Rock station. NYC and Philly's Urban stations don't reach the market too well, and neither does WGBZ/WZBZ in AC / Cape May. This type of station may not get strong ad revenue right out of the gate, but I think it would after its ratings roll in. And on the Modern Rock front - I like G Rock Radio and listen to it a good amount, but some people I've spoken with find their take on Alternative a bit too safe and mellow for their tastes, and at times I find myself having to tune out for the same reason. A station that plays more of a broad spectrum of Modern Rock is definitely needed here, with no station playing the System Of A Downs and the Mudvaynes that covers the entire market.

Atlantic City / Cape May: Seems to me like pretty much all the bases are covered here. Whether you're looking for AM or FM Talk, Urban, Smooth Jazz or Modern Rock, you can find it here. I do think two Hot ACs (WAYV, WSJO) are a bit excessive, but if they both rate and bill well, more power to them. It seemed to me like WGBZ/WZBZ didn't do all that bad in its CHR/Rhythmic incarnation, so I feel that maybe this format should be considered once again in this market - yes, there's WSJQ (Q 107), but that doesn't really reach the northern part of the market. Maybe one of the myriad Adult Contemporary stations in the market should contemplate a move if they languish in the ratings.

I live in the Sussex market and surprisingly, I don't know what WZBZ is, but whatever. For the sake of discussion, it would be interesting if country radio came to Northern NJ again, even though I don't like country.

As Lance and others have noted, New Jersey is not a single
radio market but many. All are distinguished by the
differences in demographics, economics, etc.

As far as northern New Jersey, it needs not one radio
but an entire broadcast industry. What few stations
actually transmit to an audience IN New Jersey are
small operations, unable to afford the people you expect
at radio stations in the major market it is.

There is a need for just about every type of station
that would serve the general population, not small
interest groups. I know a lot of people on the forum
are keyed into music formats and those who ride herd
on them. Because music is easily obtainable, I think
the stations this part of the state needs would concentrate
on those things that you can't buy in a CD store, or download
from a music site. That would include very professional news
operations and whatever flavor of talk radio would generate
interest and provide a sustainable income for the station and
its owners.

In short, northern New Jersey needs an entire radio
broadcast industry. TV too.

In Sussex County, they need a CHR-POP station, a rhythmic CHR station or hip hop station, a modern rock station, and an oldies station.
Max 1063 is hot ac
WSUS is a/c
WNNJ is classic rock
all you need is a CHR-POP station,rhythmic CHR,modern rock & oldies.
