Where can I look for a break down of radio salaries for various market sizes and dayparts?

if your looking for markets this small your not going to find them. You can get a generic idea from the radio and records or go to I think its salarie wizard.com. But there is no set place to find out that info that I know of, no one wants to admitt what they make, and the job descriptions are so meshed togeather now it would be impossible. For example what would a morning showhost/md/pd/production writer/ receptionist/promotions direct expect to make? I mean if lets say a morning show host makes x and a md makes y and a pd makes z, and the rest makes w does that person bring hope the whole wxyx or just what one part of it? good luck in your quest and let me know if you find out anything.

Suggestion:

Once a prospective on-air personality, production director, copywriter, traffic manager or salesperson has passed the first hurdle...AIM HIGH AT THE BEGINNING WHEN IT COMES TO SALARY!

You know you're not going to get what your worth....particularly in a small or medium market. However...if you've got a good work history, are expected to contribute more than your job description, and you're offered a salary that's foolish (or that a newbie would be offered), think very carefully before you say: "YES I'LL TAKE IT!"!

You might be setting yourself up for the biggest broadcast headache of your life!

Average salaries in Northern NE markets a few years ago were in the mid to upper-20's for non-star jocks. I seriously doubt they went up any.

Outside of the Morning Buzz, were there any "stars" in Northern New England? ???

Where'd you work? I don't remember getting much more than low-ish 20s in the early 00's.

Radiochild, ever heard of this guy named Mike Czarny? How about Tom Brennan?

Sadly, no. Except is Mike Czarny on Triple X with Chantal? Cause if so, I may have met him once when I went up to visit Scot Fontaine.

Then again, I haven't been in Northern New England for more than 6 years now. :-\

Yeah, Czarny has hosted the morning show since 1994. You know my boy Scot? Did you work at Q106 back in the day?

Yes, I worked with Scot briefly at the Q, but our friendship far surpassed the short time I worked there. It's too bad I lost touch with him. I wonder how he's doing now. 8)

He married a pretty lady, quit radio, and moved to Montreal.

How about average amounts you can expect to make during morning drive in the top 50 or top 100 markets. Are you telling me that there isn't anywhere on line that radio people can look to see what other DJ's in larger markets are making on average? I'm tired of NH and want to make more $.

Are you the next Matty in the Morning?
Are you ready to replace John Dennis, Howie Carr?
When they retire, expect to make 800 large or more, uh maybe.

Are you ready to go national?
Are you the next Imus, Stern?
Are you ready to host American Idol and have your own national radio show?
When Don, Howard and Ryan retire, you'll be a millionaire.

I'm sure you understand the industry is going through some tough times and it ain't over yet.

Good luck, we're all counting on you. :)

Why don't we all play fill in the blank with what we know...

In NH, VT, and MAINE... what kind of money is being made for:

MORNING DRIVE $?
MIDDAYS $?
AFTERNOON DRIVE $?
NIGHTS $?

OK, I'll play the game.
Considering there are only small and medium markets in N.H., VT and Maine lets compare 1998 and now.

1998 Small to Medium

Mornings 30-60K
Mid-Days 20-35K
PM Drive 25-45K
Nights 18-28K

2008 Small to Medium

Mornings Same, maybe a little more
Mid-Days Bulk of the stations, voicetracked
PM Drive Same $ or in some markets, tracked
Nights Tracked or Tesh/Delilah, etc.

You won't need your sunglasses, the future won't blind your eyes.

To determine the average radio salary for any given area, take the median income and multiply it times .45

If your goal is to be in the top markets, my best wishes.
Your "how much" question will come at the end.

Here are just a few of the things you can expect:

1. Do you stand out, are you unique, compelling?
There are LOTS of talented people out there, on the air and at the beach.

2. Do you have solid ratings, trending for a long period of time in YOUR daypart.

3. Can you stand the pressure of 4 books a year?

4. Will you mind/like working for the Simon Cowell's of the world?
I loved it, you can learn plenty.

These are just the top 4.

Only after you've passed all of the tests, will you then have the opportunity to ask, "How much?"

Name a medium market in VT, NH or ME.
