What KTFM should sound like?

http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,108736.0.html

Go to this post and download his airchecks of Texas stations from 1989. They're mostly top 40/CHRs. He does have an aircheck of KTFM from 1989. THIS was the KTFM I remembered. If you need to, just fast foward to about 6:56. It was dance CHR with a sprinkle of pop. I have some snippets of KTFM from 1990 and 1992 and hopefully I can put them online. IMHO I think this is how KTFM should sound like because this is how I, and I'm sure others, remember KTFM. I also believe those who listened prior to the "Wild" re-imaging and the flip to K-rock moved on long ago to The Beat and Mix. In other words, KTFM's imaging should focus more on 80s and 90s CHR dance and not try to be a top 40 because they are goign to get smashed by Mix and The Beat. Then again, I don't live in SA anymore.

Back to Houston boards to complain about no active rock here

In my opinion this is exactly what is wrong with those big legendary calls.

Those days are long gone and will never return. What you are suggesting is focusing on the old KTFM correct?

KTFM has been there, done that. San Antonio is not a fickle town. Having said that, SA grew tired of the old KTFM. So if you brodcast in a non fickle town and they grow tired of what you are all about, do you honestly expect them to return to liking it?

Fact of the matter is the demographics for the old KTFM isnt getting any younger.

Yes they are all over the road at times but going back to the "old" KTFM would be a huge mistake. In my opinion they are better off doing what they are doing now.

I have said it before, if San Antonio loved KTFM so much they wouldnt have turned on them back when Infinity owned it.

Do we have anyone posting here who is in KTFM's 25-34 female target demo? Criticism of the format comes across more like wishing the station would change targets if you're not part of the target. I suspect that some of the armchair critics should be asking their wives or girlfriends for their opinion before they lob their next opinion of the format's performance into the discussion.

Why are people even bother to complain about a station that doesn't exist anymore? Even if it was possible to replicate the "Original KTFM" from way back then, wouldn't it have to be classified as some kind of classic or oldies station, since that music/format is almost 20 years old?

KTFM should sound pretty much like they do now. They might want to work on Dayparting and using mass appeal artists to seperate rock, dance, hip hop product a little better.

They have hit TV with lots of ads which of course is good.

The missing element for KTFM now is the same missing element from all the stations in San Antonio.

More Local Vibe, More excitement and prizes, etc...

Radio is not working like it use to because we are not working radio to its fullest extent.

Miss salsa cook off, Concerts at the dome, Concerts at brack, etc etc etc...

New times so the music must change, but the feel and flava of the station should go back to the raza.

I think KTFM is doing what they should, just not as strongly as they should. They need to grab the market by the horns and own it. No station is doing that, the Beat was but now they are losing their shine too!
