The left is KSKO's main service area along the upper Kuskokwim, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon River communities with KSKO-FM and our FM sattelitor signals. The right is our "Extended" service area with KRFF-FM Fairbanks and it's repeaters carrying our programming 7-8am, 12-1pm and 3 to 5pm weekdays along with KZPA-AM Fort Yukon's 5kw transmitter simulcasting us 18 to 20 hours a day.
The KSKO main service area is about 150 miles or so. The extended service area is 200 plus miles away and more then 150 miles takes to the AM signal.
The maps you're looking at are wildfires in our region... the ones on the left in the KSKO service area all cropped up yesterday, likely lightning caused after a storm yesterday. Most of the ones on the right are are older.. some declared out some night.
The point of this post is to say.... KSKO is doing what local radio was meant to do, at least twice a day, we review ALL of the wildfires affecting our audience. We mention location, distance to another known place.. name, size, date discovered/date information updated and other pertinent info.
I did just that after NPR News and a Blink 182 song at 1206pm . .and it took more than 5 miles. .but I know listeners depend on us. Feels good to be there when they need us!
