What Local stations are for sale

I begin this post by saying I don't have the capital to buy or LMA a station myself. However, I have been able to make money for my owners for years.

I was just curious if anyone knows of any stations that are on the block and what they may be asking for. I know WPFB AM is for sale but the asking price is way too high.

I have been asked from someone what stations may be for sale. He doesn't want to go to a broker yet. He has talked to me about running it but he expects too quick of a return on his investment. I know it makes more sense to partner with someone who understands there is a very good chance for a positive return on their investment but not right away?

.

An associate of mine has been asked to bring offers for PFB and the translator as well. 750 will probably take PFB and 200 for the translator.
Pricy? You bet.

The owner of WCVG has been openly marketing the station.

OXY and AOL can probably still be had.

There are no more get rich quick deals in radio.

PM me if you need a good broker.

Obviously, the folks at NKU didn't get the memo. ::)

Ha ha.... You mean the "get rich quick", memo?
The guy that bought WCVG probably missed his as well.

I found it very interesting what the local stations are asking for. WPFB's asking price is high and others are high. I understand many of the owners overpaid such as WMOH and WPFB but they need to be real. WMOH was never worth near a million dollars and WPFB is not worth $750,000.

I don't even know if WMOH is on the market but here is a station poorly managed by inexperienced commercial broadcasters and programmed with no audience and no revenue base. Their talk programming is weak and the moring show is just plain awful. The main host, whatever his name is, just talks and talks with no real point in his discussion. He ought to take a page out of the Jim Scott page book of hosting no segment longer than 3 minute. Still, I doubt if anyone would want to buy WMOH the condition it is today..

WPFB, before they were sold, was a Classic Country station. There's an audience base for the format and you can make some money off of it too.

The question is does anyone think a stand alone in Ohio can really make it. It has been said before how tough it is to own and be successful with an AM.

I think the right management team could make money with WPFB. In other markets you can buy small market AM's for under $400,000. Why is this market so different?

WPFB is not really a "small market" station by definition. It's sandwiched between two decent sized markets, and has partial coverage of both, and full coverage of the biggest market's northern suburbs. I believe there may also be some upgrade potential for WPFB.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying the reasons above justify a high price. I am only attempting to find a reason why the new owners believe a high price is justified.

Its really a "rim shot" of two markets. Upgrade available? Not likely. I'd look for a way to move it a few miles north or a few miles south. However, there is a lot of action on the dial, from 890 to 930.
That "action" pretty much keeps them hemmed in, especially at night. Anymore, you have to have a decent night signal. Anything under 250 watts, night, is unprotected and subject to all kinds of hash.
