My understanding is Cunningham wasn't even there for the actual speech nor did he meet McCain...he was simply the warm up act (you know, like the local comic who gets 10 minutes at comedy club for a couple of free Bud Lights but isn't allowed to look directly at the headliner.)

He gets paid for being an entertaining, engaging host and providing a measurable edge above the competition to be exchanged for justifiable compensation for advertising.

You wanna comapre him to Jerry Springer, fine. Both are well known, well compensated and happy.
