What Radio show from Houston should/will become syndicated?

My two best bets for syndication out of Houston would be The Rod Ryan Show or The HOT show with PK Sarah Ivan. What do you think?

If Rickey Smiley ever throws in the towel at Radio One one day, The Madd Hatta Morning Show on KBXX would be next up in line for syndication there.

I doubt that one happening. But if Mad Hatta ever gets syndicated, it's because Rickey Smiley lost a lot of affiliates in the South Central US region.

The guy at 95.7 had a syndicated show before when he was in Portland. It ended up on a handful of small market stations and shrunk from there. That's not saying they wouldn't try it again, but it seems unlikely. CBS doesn't own a radio network, and as far as I know, they don't really syndicate things inside the company from one station to another. These days, you pretty much have to be in bed with Premiere (Clear Channel) or the Cumulus network to get your show cleared on a lot of stations.

I guess this means Rod Ryan is likely the next syndicate out of Houston then. Then again he was syndicated briefly wasn't he?

I would think that Sarah Pepper's "what you doing at the courthouse" bits at least could easily be sold to other stations. The people are so ignorant that get interviewed that they don't even realize that others will be laughing at them. Listening to that is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Yeah a lot of it has to do with the consolidation of radio, you won't get too many unique skits anywhere else because of this.

Bits were being bought & sold long before consolidation. Chickenman, anyone? Hiney Wine? Red Neckerson?

We've just moved from bits coming on reel and vinyl or mail or fax to downloaded from the web.

Not really a show - but a format: NGEN. I think KSBJ is on to something there. Either KSBJ will syndicate / license it, or WPOZ Orlando will do it with their Christian hip-hop and Christian rock formats. Whoever seizes the opportunity first - wins.

I'm sure that Madd Hatta will stay local. WCKX Columbus is Radio One's only other mainstream urban/rhythmic property to avoid the syndicated bug. Just last week, WPHI in Philadelphia dropped Rickey Smiley after a year.

Rod was syndicated into New Orleans (and where they picked him up from) before CC gave up doing a rock format completely except on HD...So my guess is find a rock station that's not doing bob and tom, and that's probably where you will find him

Just looked at he Bob and Tom affiliates, I guess he has good territory to start. Rod Ryan could start out in NOLA again, get DFW, and a few small cities in Texas like Waco, Tyler-Longview, and Lufkin-Nac and spread from there. I've been told he's actually seriously considering widespread syndication, but he does have a large local following which gives him a good chance for it.

That's a possibility as well. I can see NGEN perhaps a true competitor to Air 1.

You'd likely also need to take into account (at the very least) John Boy and Billy's current affiliates; see http://www.thebigshow.com/aa_webcast_stations/index.php. (Both B&T and JB&B are handled by Premiere.)

I know a lot of about John Boy and Billy, I know their territory. I listen to them at times when I am on my way to my university, and they seem to be very regional and Southern-oriented than Bob and Tom which seem to be widespread.

what about the Yolanda Adams Morning show how is it doing in this area?

No clue since I don't listen to it. But I know Kidd Kraddick was dropped out of there with a year and a half being in Houston. Rumor has it that Rod Ryan might syndicate and John Boy and Billy might give Houston a try. Something tells me syndicated stuff in the morning might not do well here unless it's from Houston.

Unless you have an HD radio, you are not hearing the YAMS OTA anymore.
