what radio station was this????

Hi guys, I was traveling up to camp this afternoon and noticed this building that used to be a radio station, its obvious, the nearest cross street is Greenspot road and Alta Vista, In the east highlands ranch area, I know it was not the old KDAY on AM, or 1350 KCKC, cause I always saw the station when my aunt drove into the downtown San Bernardino area as a kid, my only guess is AM 1290, if you go to google maps and type in the cross streets Greenspot road and alta vista in highland ca, then go on street view and go west you will see the building, its boarded up with 3 satellites in the back, its less than a mile from the wash area. If anyone knows the answer I would appreciate it. Thanks. :)

I'm surprised with all the development that's happened out that way that the building is still there.

It's the old location of both KCAL AM (1410) and KCAL FM (96.7). The studios, offices, and nighttime AM towers were located there for many years.

The towers were moved in the 80s to another part of East Highland, east of where Baseline Avenue more or less ends, in both a residential and shopping area.

The single daytime tower last I knew was still located next to the 10 freeway on Alabama St., near the old Skateland roller rink.

The area used to literally be the middle of nowhere, and was the subject of local high school "terror tales" (every area seems to have had one) of gruesome murders, monsters, and "unexplainable scary things".

My knowledge is limited on this station to what's in the FCC database, but it looks like they were using the night towers at this site up until a few years ago when the site was in disrepair... it looks like they have a permit to diplex on the KKDD site day and night, but in the latest STA's, they no longer plan to build out that CP. Right now, they intend to rehab the night site that's mentioned here, and continue to use the two sites.

Jim James with a loaf of bread and bottle of Pepto on his desk... The guys on the (Spanish) AM would always microwave fish *gag!* Free form, every day!

"The Rock Spectrum 96-7 KCAL FM."

Good times.
