What should WJLP do with the subchannels that will be vacated by Katz Networks?

OK. WJLP and WNWT are being sold to Weigel Broadcasting, which also just purchased WZME. That's technically three stations in the NY Tri-State area.

I don't know whether that satisfies compliance with the FCC, so I'll leave that to the experts.

With that said, look for tons of migration of digital channels with this move. At the very least, Heroes & Icons, MeTV+ and other Weigel networks should find themselves on the WJLP signal or at least the WNWT signal. I think it's safe to say that Laff and Grit will leave that channel, as Weigel won't want to promote a competitor on their channel. Them having the CW in Chicago is a special circumstance. Grit should finally wind itself at the WPXN signal soon enough.

I also think that NewsMax and NewsNet will also leave eventually.

So what happens then with WZME? With Weigel getting an actual city signal and two more local channels WZME might become a redundant channel. Another possibility is that networks like Heartland and RetroTV move to the WNWT channel and the Weigel networks occupy both WJLP and WZME.
Thanks for this info. I was wondering why all of the news channels (NTD, Newsmax, Newsnet and the weather data) were deleted from WJLP and WNWT. Also wondering why MeTV+ is on FiOS but not on any OTA station.

MeTV+ is on an OTA station, WZME. Problem is WZME shares a signal with WEDW, a Connecticut PBS station, in SW Connecticut. However, the two have applied to put a DTS node in the Empire State Building, which would put a signal over the entire city.

Assuming that they get approval, that would give Weigel a 2nd full power station with a signal all over the city. (WNWT is a low-power station that shares with WJLP) That is probably why the FCC allowed them to own three stations. That's enough space for all the Weigel networks - MeTV, MeTV+, Heroes & Icons, Movies!, Decades, Start TV - to migrate there.

This is just speculation but I think we might see something like this in the future:

33.1 - MeTV
33.2 - Heroes & Icons
33.3 - Decades
33.4 - Start TV
33.5 - Movies!

37.1 - Local Now

43.1 - MeTV+
43.2 - Heartland
43.3 - Retro TV

Grit might end up either as another subchannel of WPXN 31 or a subchannel of WXTV 41, replacing Bounce TV, which is already a duplicate of 31.2

As WJLP deleted 4 channels that seemed perfectly viewable, is there a chance that all their networks and what exists now could be on channel 33? Also, why were they using channel 37 if everything was on the RF of WJLP 33? Seems as if the only benefit would be to separate some channels, however Newsnet and the weather data were on both 33 and 37 which had me wondering why they chose that setup.

WNWT-LD is spectrum sharing with WJLP so its 2 separate licenses on the same RF frequency (RF3) so thats why WNWT is using PSIP 37. No different than WNBC and WNJU sharing RF35 with WNBC using 4.X and WNJU using 47.X

Thanks for the reply. I thought that was the case, that all of the broadcasts are on WJLP's RF. What am am wondering is why. I can understand WNBC keeping the languages separate. As for what the future brings, I could understand their placing Grit on 37 as it is from the competition, but I also see that the vintage programming fits well with their own networks and could possibly stay on 33 or even move to the station in Connecticut. However, WJLP had some news programming on ch 33 and other news on 37 and some were on both. Just wondering as to why it was set up that way. In addition, any details as any upcoming changes on these channels? Also curious as to why one of my sets gets Newsy on 31, but another set gets 31.1 through 31.6 all with a strong signal -- but not Newsy. I've rescanned several times, even checking that Newsy was on air when scanning on the other set. Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone can offer.

Guess that is how they wanted it. They could use 33.X and mix the 2 together. That is how its done here in Minneapolis with 3 duopolies
Example is FOX owns KMSP (RF9) and WFTC (RF29). They mix the PSIP
RF29 has 9-1 (Fox), 9-2 (My), 9-3 (Movies)
RF9 has 9-4 (Buzzzr), 9-5 (Grio), 9-6 (Decades) and 9-9 (Fox)

MeTV+ appearing on WJLP channel 33.8. Story Television will appear next week on WJLP 33.7. Therefore, both networks already will have a city signal by next week. This leads me to think that WZME will more likely stay as an exclusively SW Connecticut signal, unless WEDW really wants to go through with the DTS at Empire State Building.

Grit, ION Mystery and Laff will remain on their respective WJLP subchannels, which is expected since WJLP is still contracted to host those Scripps networks.

I don't see why they wouldn't want to complete the DTS. While it would not be a full market facility, the license would certainly be more valuable with strong NYC coverage.
