For me:
Hill Street Blues
The A-Team
WKRP In Cincinatti
The Bob Newhart Show
New York Undercover
and some classic Nickelodeon shows

I think that a couple of these shows are in syndication.

"Bob Newhart" was on Chicago's ME-TV a couple years back, if you're referring to the 70s incarnation. "A-Team" has also run in a couple of markets in recent years.

There's a lot of old shows that are available in syndication, but just don't run in more than a couple of cities.

I love HILL STREET BLUES and WKRP (Turkey's Away is still a classic).

NEW YORK UNDERCOVER is on TV-One DIRECTV channel 241. Not sure if it is on DISH or any cable systems. It was a great show, too. I love the music acts incorporated into it.

THE A-TEAM is on several channels. I think TV-Land is airing it, Sleuth which is a new channel on DIRECTV Channel 308 is airing it and here in Houston, KTBU Channel 55 is airing it.

I'm glad to see ION TV (formerly PAX) is carrying ALICE. I always enjoyed that show.

Others I'd like to see...
PETTICOAT JUNCTION
HOGAN'S HEROES
MAUDE
3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN (it just disappeared, it's hilarious!)
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT
THE ADDAMS FAMILY
TRAPPER JOHN M.D.

Get Smart
Hogan's Heroes
Barney Miller
Taxi
Newhart - the 80's version
WKRP in Cincinnati - I'd be willing to watch even the shows with music edited out.
The 50's Honeymooners - It may still be on some stations in larger cities, but I haven't seen it locally or on cable anywhere since when the Classic 39 episodes were shown on TV Land after Art Carney's death.

A few more thoughts after just watching Boomerang with my 4 year old daughter:

Post 1948 Looney Tunes - No longer shown on Cartoon Network/Boomerang because of their contract with WB running out.
Non-Tom & Jerry MGM cartoons - CN and Boomerang show T&J, but only use other classic MGM cartoons like Droopy for occasional filler.
Rocky & Bullwinkle

I would have added this to my previous post, which had only been an hour ago, but time ran out to edit. Could someone at R-I PLEASE fix this???

I have been watching Alice and Mama's Family on Ion TV and it has been a great week for that network. Ratings for Mama's Family have been great the Ion and has improved over the last year.

Yes, 3rd Rock from the Sun is a great show and I have not seen it on cable lately. The late time I saw 3rd Rock for the Sun was on ABC Family two years old. I was hoping that TBS would pick up the show. If they picked up Yes, Dear, they could have acquired the rights to 3rd Rock.

OTHER SHOWS THAT SHOULD BE ON CABLE OR BROADCAST SYNDICATION:

The Bob Newhart Show
Newhart (although I think Bob Newhart Show is better)
Too Close for Comfort (could be good for Ion TV)
The Fall Guy (could be great show for Ion TV or TV Land)
Hart to Hart
Empty Nest
Soap

Frank's Place (although it only lasted two seasons, but a great show)
CHiP's
Taxi
Hill Street Blues
L.A. Law

Barney Miller (it would be a great show for Ion TV)
WKRP in Cincinnati (would be great for Ion TV or TV Land)
Get Smart

Hogan's Heroes

Both these shows are available in broadcast syndication (they've both run in the past couple years on Chicago's ME-TV, and Hogan's Heroes currently runs on LA's KDOC). In addition, Hogan's Heroes is being offered by CBS Paramount in high definition to stations that are willing to pay for the HD tapes and have the required equipment. I saw a few episodes on HDNet a couple years back, and it looks really, really good -- you'd hardly know that it is 35 to 40 years old from the image quality!

In general, I'd just like to see more stations actually pick up the syndicated reruns of these classic shows. Considering how worn out some of the "newer" comedy reruns are getting, I can't help but think that some of these shows (which haven't been broadcast in many areas in several years) could be a very good alternative to the thousandth repeat of "Friends".

I forgot about EMPTY NEST. Good show! Being HOGAN'S HEROES is my favorite show of all time, I'd love to see the HD Episodes.

And as the poster used to say at the ABC affiliate I used to work at, "Friends don't let friends watch Friends."

Is the music the hang up behind WKRP not being shown?! If it is, that's just plain ridiculous. It's only snipets of songs for goodness sake, some of those songs haven't been played in years, they should be happy for the plugs.

Also, I'm glad that KTBU Channel 55 here in Houston is showing NORTHERN EXPOSURE now, too. It's one of the best written shows I've ever seen.

Someone should get together with the Johnny Carson estate and put together an all new "Best of Johnny Carson/Comedy Classics" series. The 1983 syndicated series is being re-run on KDOC in L.A. to very popular response. The first four prime-time anniversary specials are also circulating as well. I think a new series as well as the release of the remaining prime-time specials would be fantastic!

The main factors I see in why so many classic TV shows aren't seen any more are:

Stations that would rather fill their local time with courtroom and talk shows and infomercials rather than any classic shows because it supposedly makes more money.

Cable networks like TV Land that get the rights to classic shows, show them for a short time, and then just sit on them. Either that or they only show a small number of episodes over and over.

Production companies that own the shows but make little or no effort to distribute them.

As long as all of them refuse to listen to viewers I don't see these factors changing any time soon.

Hogan's Heroes is shown in Indianapolis on WHMB-TV 40 weekday afternoons.

I'm excited about seeing "The Wonder Years" on ion at night. I also would like to see Newhart. (you can never get enough of Larry, Daryl and Daryl)

We still get "Bob Newhart" here in Chicago once a week, and it hasn't held up at all well. It's just boring. Even though it's totally a 70s show, others like "Good Times," and "All In The Family," which are even more dated hold up well.

We got "Petticoat Junction" too in Chicago (thanks to ME-TV) but that show was so bad after Steve was introduced. It changed the whole show's focus on Steve and Betty Jo and them singing in every other episode.

I'd like to see the old WB show, "Unhappily Ever After," I can't remember that ever being on in Chicago, though it must've been at some point. Even though it was a copy of "Married with Children" it'd be good to see again. Also some of the older Fox shows like "Duet," might be worth a second look.

Re; what's on tv;

Many court and talk shows are "barter" to the station - NO cash is required, only airtime to play commercials in exchange for the program.

With a few exceptions, comedies may cost DOLLARS.

EVERYTHING ALWAYS comes back to MONEY. Check Imus and insulting ncaa players - cbs gets BILLIONS from the ncaa so they can't afford to insult a customer like that.

EVERYTHING ALWAYS comes back to MONEY.

In addition to many of the programs listed above (Northern Exposure, yeah!) I'd like to see two NBC programs from the 70s----Emergency and Police Woman, plus I'd like to see Route 66 on. I'm trying not to give up on TV, but there is nothing much I want to watch, though I get well over 200 channels on cable. Just doesn't make sense....

You know I get satisfaction out of this board. It's nice to know there are other "weirdo’s" (like me) out there that agree with me on what they would like to see on TV. I just cut down to the 80 or so analog channels (from the 100's on digital tier) on my cable. All I got were sports I didn't care about, religious channels, & shopping. Yes, I want to see Barney Miller, Hogan’s Heroes, Route 66, Get Smart, WKRP, even Too Close For Comfort. Sorry, no A Team or Miami Vice –they’ve been run over & over again. Heck, I would even welcome Bewitched back. My life style is set up for half hour shows. I just don’t have time to get involved with many hour or longer programs. Maybe it’s because I have the attention span of a four year old but I do like the Looney Toons and The Three Stooges, too. That’s what I would like to see on my TV lineup.

Empty Nest? I liked that show! I always enjoyed the late Richard Mulligan. You know I always found it odd that despite lasting seven years Empty Nest never really made it in syndication. I think Lifetime showed the series several years ago, but obviously they have dedicated more time to sister series The Golden Girls re-rerunning that show to death, even bringing out the failed CBS continuation series Golden Palace.

Early subday morings around 4am are ind. Channel here in Cincinnati It's 38 polas WB cartoons. I hate that the channel is noton cabkle because I would watch it I get stuck watching it on my 3" screen portable SONY watchman and it sucks that i cant get it on cable.

Lots of good 80s shows aren't being seen - how about "Gimme a Break," "Mr. Belvedere" or St. Elsewhere. Is "The Wonder Years"" still out there? Haven't seen it in awhile.

Also, I'd like to see Diffr'nt Strokes, but don't know if it will ever see the light again, because of the tragic lives of its cast members.

Here are some I would like to see in syndication:

Friday The 13th: The Series.
Top Cops
Night Heat*

*Ironically, I first caught the show when it aired on the now-defunct WWOR-AEC Service weeknights at 7:00 pm.
