I'm glad to see ION TV (formerly PAX) is carrying ALICE. I always enjoyed that show.

Bad news dude. I know I'm devestated by the news. ION is dropping Alice in July. Designing Women replaces both AMEN and Alice. Who's the Boss? replaces diagnosis murder, which moves to 6PM replacing Moral Court.

They got like 1/2 billion hours of Infomercials during the day they can add these new shows to some of those timeslots instead of taking off the good stuff.

Charley's Angels, F Troup, and shows that were on for 13 weeks and then got axed (you'd probably find a few new cult favorites along the way) Maybe have a one hit wonder nite of the week. I've had enough of Lucy anjd Ward spanking the Beaver.

I'd like to see

Max Headroom (though the show is available on AOL In2TV).
Barney Miller
Herman's Head
Parker Lewis Can't Lose
(another vote for) Northern Exposure. I'll admit I watched the entire run on CBS, but missed the last couple eps & the finale, which I finally caught on Hallmark(?) when they ran the show late nights a few years back.

Also wouldn't mind seeing some of the very short lived shows that I recall from the 70's-80's ("San Pedro Beach Bums" comes to mind...) maybe with the advent on video-on-demand, even the most obscure programs will eventually see the light of day somewhere.

Some great short-run series were showcased on the now defunct Trio Network (remember "Brilliant But Cancelled"?). Wish they were still around. Though one viewing was enough for "Cop Rock".

For a couple years there was a syndication package from Columbia Television featuring "Bewitched" and "I Dream Of Jeannie", which would alternate with episodes of "The Partridge Family", "The Monkees", "The Jeffersons", and I think "Diff'rent Strokes". Unfortunately there were very few episodes of each show, and they repeated often.

I think the "Screen Gems Network" is still around or has come back. When KDOC began airing "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" this past Memorial Day, instead of the pilot episodes, they were shows from somewhere in the middle of their respectives runs. Both shows are closed captioned, and the rather large "Screen Gems Network" bug tilts in and out at the beginning of each segment on the left side of the screen.

Ah yes "Screen Gems"..thanks for the memory jog. Last station I worked at used to air them. No particular rhyme or reason to the episode order.

In regard to two earlier posts...

Hill Street Blues just began a few weeks ago Sunday nights on American Life, where F Troop continues to run.

Hill Street is Sunday night at 9...and F Troop is Sat night at 9:30.

OTHER SHOWS THAT SHOULD BE ON CABLE OR BROADCAST SYNDICATION:

Frank's Place (although it only lasted two seasons, but a great show)
FP lasted *one* season. 22 eps from 9/87 to 3/88.

Mary Tyler Moore, both Bob Newhart shows, and WKRP are on ALN on Monday nights now as well. I just with they were on more than one night a week.

Like Oldies radio, 60's & 70's TV seem to be disappearing from the airwaves, even on channels like TVLand! A sad thing for classic tv fans.

First, these comments are based on what most mainstream cable companies offer today...Agreeing with others above, I would love to see Mary Tyler Moore and the 70's Bob Newhart Show again. I would kill to see one of the late Tom Poston "peeper" episodes on Newhart! The Partridge Family was done with a lot of attention to quality writing and filming, but nobody will touch it! I also remember a drama spin-off from MTM called "Lou Grant", very intelligent show. Yet, Bonanza seems to run through most of the weekend on TVLand. Perhaps the shows I liked just don't test well today, but that is my 2 cents. And if any of you can relate, then you are probably in my demo, 35-54. Is this demo simply not important to anyone anymore?

Why hasn't someone developed a Classic TV network, ala Turner Classic TV?

Given that there's so much product available from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, it would seem to be a natural.

For the 80s, I would limit shows to the ones not aired much anymore, like the ones mentioned earlier in this thread. No, I don't want Roseanne, Cheers, etc., the kind of shows that are frequently aired elsewhere.

Actually, in an ideal world, I would love to see a Classic TV channel breakdown like this (thanks to another poster):

-50s-60s -focusing on 50s to early to mid 60s. If a show started in '69 or '79, that would run in the following decade.
-70s-80s - dittos.

Nobody is stopping YOU . This is America. Do it!
Nothing is stopping you, sir. Why don't you do it?

I think any kind of progamming would be an improvement on what's available. 500 channels and nothing's on.

I'm retired. YOU are the dude with the big ideas.
So nice to have intelligent conversation here.

Here we are with a legitimate topic and a poster comes in here and like tells me to "shove it."

I imagine you're wonderful to work and live with.
Do you bite off everyone's head when you have a disagreement?

Or do you prefer to insult them with objectionable phrases?

I was merely suggesting your unproven, unknowledgeable "epertise" in absolutely nothing.

What have you done in radio? NOTING!- except TALK.
OK, We accept your drivel.

May I interrupt this personal attack????

What in Hades makes you think I never worked in radio? Have you not read my posts?

I worked in radio news for two years and 7 years in TV news.

Plus add the 7 years I've been in another media work, journalism.

Count 'em. That's 16 years. That hardly any supposed lack of "epertise" to disqualify me for not supposedly having any broadcasting experience.

Okay. Your turn to belch out another unprovoked insult and disrupt this otherwise legitimate thread.

You might also learn to spell.
