What site measures number of hits?

Does anyone know the best internet tool for determining the number of visits at a particular site?

I went to compete.com and that a disaster. Sometimes I would get data for a particular site and other times it would lock up. Unfortunately it locked up the majority of times.

Appreciate your advice! josh :)

The service you really want is Google Analytics. Alexa is a service like Arbitron - they have meters on some users' computers that check to see when someone visits radio-info.com, and they project that to the general population.

I'll toss in my vote for google analytics as well. Easy to use and there is a lot of really useful information you can extract beyond just the number of hits to your web page.

Just to agree with everyone's comments,

Google Analytics or Statcounter are both good free options.

Dave

The great thing about Google is you get a listing of where the hits came from, Google, Tagoo, a particular link. There's alot more info there that might be valuable if your selling banners.

Another vote for google analytics if this is a site of your own that you want to monitor, and I feel I should also throw in google webmaster tools http://www.google.com/webmasters/ If you are trying to look up competitors websites and their traffic, there simply is no accurate way to do this. You can get some general ideas from tools such as compete.com, quantcast, alexa, and semrush but note that none of these are truly accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt.
