What Station did I work for?

As I sit here updating my resume, just in case, I cannot for the life of me remember the call letters of one of the stations I worked for. Maybe Melody, Rob or Kenny can help out. It was Kool 98 (Oldies98-Star 98-Target 98) Maybe that's the problem. It was hard enough just to keep up with the slogans. Thanks.

Bill -

The call letters were WYKL, Millington-Memphis, which were preceeded by WPYR, KPYR, KMPZ.... etc., etc.(I don't remember Rock 98). I was there for all 4 sets of call letters.

I'm guessing 98.1 may hold the record for call letters/formats in the Memphis market, followed closely by 94.1. Brian Craig would know for sure.

I think you just discovered another "You know you worked in radio too long when..."

You can't remember the calls letters of a former station because they have changed format so many times. :D

K~

Before becoming a Memphis station 98.1 had the call letters KOSE-FM and KHFO.

September 1986--KWLN
July 1988--KMPZ
August 1990--KPYR
April 1992--WPYR
March 1993--WYKL
May 1995--WSRR-FM
March 2005--WXMX

I worked weekends when it was KOSE ROCK 98

FWIW...

You can look up past callsigns of a station.

- Go to http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_sear.htm
- Type the *current* call letters in the first box.
(there are other search criteria possible on that page, if you don't know the current call letters)
- Submit Search
- Click for Details
- View Call Sign History

It goes back to the mid-1980s or so.

Sorry Bill, I hadn't read the board in a while. Now stop making me go back through the t-shirts. :D :-*

Meep, the WSRR was Star. The KMPZ was Z-98 with Rumble and Thrower and Rob Harder also used to be at Rock 98.
Hey, and when it was 'no-name'......sheesh.
