Picked up the following on 99.1 earlyer coming back to San Antonio, we were north of Johnson City and it sounds like a pirate. http://www.sendspace.com/file/buaaop

Audio quality sounds like a rather low quality stream.
a couple songs were played (one oldschool big-band style track and one local Texas country track about a guy "living on a big round ball" LOL). Then came a DJ on a non-professional sounding mic announcing the songs he played and the songs that were coming up next, then I picked up the beginning of a new song which was also an old-school big band song. Station faded out after that.

Can anyone here recognize the channel or the DJ?

The closest thing to where you were is K256BX in Luckenbach, a translator for KDRP-LP. Power is just 62 watts but with an antenna height of about 630 feet, maybe that's what you heard.

You know, that might be KDRP now that I think of it. Programming sounded like an LP or community radio station.

I knew they had a couple translators, wasn't sure of the locations.

Awesome.

That was likely KDRP.

There is another station in the area (actually assigned to Blowout, a town that no longer exists, that's pretty much at about the halfway point between Horseshoe Bay and Stonewall. It is KXMP 88.9. I listened for several hours: a strange mix that went from a polka to Willie Nelson to Don Henley and many unknowns. No IDs that I heard but just 60 minutes of random tracks an hour. Was in the Marble Falls are over the weekend.

I'll give that a listen when I'm up there again.

And what is on 101.9 in Marble Falls? When I've been through there it's always been Christian preaching and talk but with audio only on the right channel, LP?

101.9 would be Burnet Bible Church's LPFM.

Another oddity in the area is KAJZ in Llano, currently operating on 106.5 the frequency they have a CP for, with a smooth jazz format. Never heard a commercial, just IDs every 30 minutes and an invite to email them. If you like smooth jazz, you'll like them. Yesterday I even heard a John Klemmer track from the 1970s.

It's been smooth jazz for as long as I can remember. Something different!
I always listened when driving through the area on 96.3 and it's translator in Burnet on 102.1. We drive through the area when visiting family in north TX.
Last week KAJZ 96.3 and K271BC were both off-air, I did wonder about that. Should have known about 106.5 so I could check it.
