WHAT STATIONS WILL DO WELL WITH THE PPM?

Who will be top 5? I think KISS will be the overall leader if a spanish station doesn't take it. From watching other markets and watching radio stations that nobody batted an eye at come out a contender, it's hard to tell who will do well. Any guesses? ???

I think the edge is in danger with ppm's.So far ppm's have caused two of my favorite station to blow up.One is indie1031 in los angeles and the other is g rock radio on the jersey shore. Now indie i can see being owned by a hispanic broadcasting company but not g rock in jersey. That was a bad decision why would you spend your money on a start up piped in chr when you can buy z-100 and get more bang for your coin. But it looks like ppm's are taking a toll on the alternative genre.

Early on it was hypothesized that alt. would do well with the PPMs, and a lot of stations flipped to the format, but in practice it is turning out that these stations are not faring as well in the PPMs. Agreed, the Edge could be in jeaprody (sp.).

(Honest question as i don't know the answer to it): How would Energy have done in the PPMs? (Is SF in PPM mode yet?, if so how is their Energy doing?)

I beg to differ. The Edge couldn't get any worse according to R&R. They are in the bottom 4 which doesn't make any sense. They don't have any "real" competition, and I know AZ has a decent alternative following. If they would just go back to their roots (Like the "1st Wave weekend" they just did...awesome), then I firmly believe PPM will be in their favor. I think the station has became forgetable, and even those who listen don't give the proper credit. PPM will change all of that, and if The Edge could stop sharing songs with 98, then they will own the format once again.

It seems that the PPM favors high-cume, lower TSL stations. My guess is that Energy would register a very low cume with average TSL…so it probably would not have done well.

Yes, SF is in PPM mode. As of December, their Energy 92.7 (KNGY) ranked approximately 28th in cume and something like 37th in share (which represents a combination of cume & TSL). This, of course, is for 6+, which is even more meaningless than 12+.

I find it very odd that the edge does worse without competition then with very odd.The zone helped them.

They had a good vibe going on thwne they tweaked the station in summer of 2004 took all the jocks off and all the specialty programs and then they came back improved. Marc had a good thing going on there.

The edge ain't a bad station though still they are better then some so called alternatives today.

I still think ppm's if the edge stays as is will not be good for them.I am thankful but wonder why riviera keeps the edge?
