What tabletop or boombox AM-FM radios with HD radio are of best audio quality?

The lack of answers says volumes about HD radio.

The only HD radio that was close to perfect WAS the Sony tuner, so of course they stopped making it, causing the price to skyrocket. The Sony tuner had heating issues, as do most every HD and SatRad built these days. The Sony had superb FM, but subpar AM.
The Sangean HD1-X version is also in the very decent tuner category and offered CQUAM AM stereo in the 'X' version so you can enjoy KCJJ, WLS, CFCO, WIRY, etc in full AM stereo. Also had a 'split tuner' for sync of Analog & Digital audio (one per channel).

Outside of that, I've had TWO Directed Electronics HD tuner car adapters die, most likely from heat, so I cannot recommend that.
The Directed Electronics 'tabletop' radio (not just a tuner) suffers from a 'ticking noise' when using AUX or at higher volumes; FM had very good selectivity as does the AM. AM sensitivity even with an external antenna has a hard time getting HD lock on AM.

If it wasn't for the high cost, I'd rather have a deluxe analog tuner like the Fanfare FTA-100 - superb low noise floor for an analog tuner - AM has superb audio, meets 'AMAX stereo' specs out to 7500Hz+, noise reduction is great, FM analog from NPR orchestra (non-HD) station is life-like. I'd put my money on the Fanfare FTA-100 as a studio monitor for non-HD radio.
