What talk stations / programs do you like or dislike?

Talk radio?....it seems that most talk radio is " talk at you" radio ::)...let me ask...what talk radio programs/stations do you like?....what subjects would you like brought up?What would you like to see changed or improved on?...what would draw you to listen more to talk? ???

Living near RI, I have become increasingly fond of 630 WPRO. Depetro, Cianci, Dan Yorke, Matt Allen, make for great local talk and news all day long. In my humble opinion, WPRO AM is the best AM station in either state.

I like talk radio that is actually two way "talk" radio. Maryellen Burns runs a good show on Saturday afternoons. She actually engages in conversation with the callers. I get very frustrated with the hosts who cut their callers off before the caller has had a chance to make his/her point or hosts who talk over callers to mask their own inability to actually engage in intelligent conversation or rationally argue their point. I have a real problem with hosts who play sound bites over and over and over. They might as well mail it in. It becomes frustrating to listen to. Where's Gene Burns when you need him?

I like Steve Laveille.

I agree with Maryellen Burns having a good show too!

The Big Show on WEEI is very decent also.

Like Howie Carr and Laura Ingraham; sometimes will tune into Steve Leveille or Jordan Rich. Can't
really take McPhee's voice. I do like a little bit of Phil "Truth Is Our (Female Dog)" Hendrie...

I do like Howie's sound bites...given the fast paced nature of talk radio at least in drive time, you only
have so much time to make a point. Pet peeves:
--hosts that only allow you a sentence or two before they come in and dominate the rest of the call.

--hosts that will throw someone on with less than a minute to go before the break (and yes Howie is
one of 'em)--inevitably you get someone who'd take 2 minutes just to get to their point and when
'you only give them 20 seconds (bumper music rushing out), etc., hey, why bother?

I could take a bit of Dennis Miller but nobody has him in Boston (yes WCRN in Worc. has him I think
but usu. pre-empted by Sox? And I'm at work and can't really pick them up at that time)

>>" talk at you" radio
...like TRN's Tammy Bruce who always seems like she's doing a monologue the whole show. Does anyone
ever call in? (WNSH afternoons)

Shows I could do without... (dislike - although I don't really hate them)

Ed Schultz
Roy Masters
Lou Dobbs

Shows I wish we had...(really like)

Neal Boortz
Mike Savage
Randi Rhodes

finally...
JIM VILLANUCCI (someone needs to get his show going national)

Ed Schultz[SNIP]

Where--on the air, NOT on the Internet--can you get Ed Schultz around here? AFAIK, he has not been heard over the air in this market for almost two years.

WBZ -
Steve LeVeille is okay, can be a bit "hot headed" at times. I have been getting weary of his attitude over the past year or so.

Jordan Rich is cool, wish he had a full-time gig. More open lines & less guests would make for an excellent show.

Morgan White Jr is another that is pleasant to listen to, although I feel he should stick to "easy-going" topics & let the politics alone.

Bradley Jay - Absolutely horrible...Immature, self centered, closed-minded, egotistical, non educated, very "green" as a talk show host. (sorry if I left anything out) And that is what he learned from college??? Hey, he doesn't seem to have a problem with name calling & bashing others. BZ is doing a disservice to the listening community by having him as a fill-in host. ::) :( ::)

I guess quality is hard to find for the money...

How about Jay & Randy on AM 1520 in West Chester, PA?

(Not Boston local? Okay, how about Stephanie Miller - she used to be heard in Boston... ;D )

I agree with Katzradio, Jordan Rich is maddd cool. I also love WEEI Dennis and Callahan, Planet Mikey, Mike Munanski, John Ryder, and Fox Sports Radio's Third Shift On Fox with Big Ben Maller, John Frickie from Fox Sports Radio.

While I do listen to Howie Carr for the Chump Line and The Big Show from time to time,
I prefer mostly financial talk shows like Ray Lucia, Dave Ramsey and Bob Brinker.

All the other shows talk down to you if not at you, but I digress.

I do like Howie. I read his Bulger bros. book and must say I really enjoyed it. I'm also enjoying that new weekend show on TKK. It's a little different from the norm, kind of like a hannity/colmes type of show.

I like Howie's show... Its always entertaining and has good guests.
I like the 12-3 duo on TKK.
Hank Stolz show on CRN is/was a hit or miss, some days it was great radio, others it was kind of dry.
I cant stand the afternoon guy at TAG but their new morning guy is great!

I tend to like shows that are more local during the day and national at night.
The LOVED Art Bell, his replacement is not to bad.....
What I like the most on talk radio and I cant find in Boston, Worcester or Springfield is Paul Harvey I know he is about 130 years old and does not do the show all that much but the whole idea of his show is one that I really enjoy.

I go with the sports, if im not on the business stations. I really dislike the hosts on weei but u cant get anything remotely quality without weei. financial talk, i think money matters is the only game in town.

I only tolorate the format, I really stopped enjoying it years ago. The same can be said for music radio but that isn't neccessarily the fault of a station's lineup, like talk is.
So I could easily name some hosts who I don't like at all, but I don't care enough about them to even drop their names. I will say the Big O is very good at what he does and Dan Rea earnestly attempts to run a good show.

So in a post-the Dean, Bob Raleigh, world of talk radio I'd say telephone talk has almost evaporated and NPR, EEI, BBC,GBH, BZ news-talk has replaced most if not all of it.

* Currently the only syndi' RW crackpot I listen to occasionally is Alex Jones. He's an interesting broadcaster and I still have an appreciation for that.
