Quick, guys, go check out the NYC board, Ktu was reportedly playing songs like Hotel California from the Eagles, as well as Jimmy Buffet-Margeritaville, and Eddie Money-Take me home tonight.... What the heck is going on over their? How does this fall into the Definition of Dance? Its even rumoured that they may be tweaking their playlist to go Oldies. I just cant see any way at all, how they think these songs fit into a Dance station.

I will make my reply in here since we ARE dance music fans and that I really don't want to deal with all these oldies posters going nuts about wanting KTU in that direction.

It is weird hearing stuff like this on 'KTU and being that their 10th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks, tweaking the format like this makes NO SENSE whatsoever.

Granted the station DID take a fall in the ratings. As minute as MIX 102.7 might be in the ratings as well, they are making a dent at 'KTU somehow. I will say it again...'KTU NEEDS TO LEAN CURRENT...NOW! Not saying go 100 percent current; the damage with dance classics has been done. But at least a 65/35 split.....the higher number meaning currents.

Just get ready to stand by folks. IF a flip does happen within the next few weeks, though I don't anticipate this, BE READY TO PUSH MIX 102.7 TO GO CURRENT!
At least having a second rhythmic station in the city has its advantages.

Very funny Tony and so true. LOL.

Evidently KTU is doing a "back in the day" show between 3 and 4pm. (as if they weren't back in the day already). I just don't understand why they chose those 3 songs....it doesn't fit in with the genre/format of the station.
I don't believe it is a tweak or beginning of a format change but just an extremely unfocused move on their part.
They've always seemed to lack a real direction.
MIX 102.7, although all classic dance, in my opinion is a more focused sounding station musically.
On a KTU positive note, I have heard alot of currents and new music in the evenings.

I heard they're gonna Go Country...Country Circuit anthems LOL. Nothing but the best in Thunderpuss remixes to Leann Rimes and Shania Twain.
On occasion there will be some Ambient Atmohspheric OLDIES, like Jean Michel Jarre "Oxygen". Or maybe some Elvis Oldies, like the Junkie XL versus Elvis "A Little Less Conversation".
KTU might also go Dance/Punk with the best in Daft Punk and Planet Funk's "The Switch".
Since KTU plays some Dance Classics the station might also play some remixes to Classic Rock, like Freddy Mercury's "Living On My Own", or Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams".

There will be special Triple A weekends that fuse Adult Album Alternative artists with their Dance remixes, like all the Sarah Mclachlan and Jewel remixes.

Anyway, I definately agree with the earlier post. KTU should definately quit trying to fight Mix on the classic dance front, and KTU should lean more toward currents, recurrents and dance gold from the past 5 to 10 years. Dance is BIG in NYC. And it isn't just old disco and 80's freestyle either. Current dance is bigger in NYC than anywhere else in the U.S. Just go into Tower or Virgin Mega Store in NYC and they have huge dance sections and are often playing dance on the sound system in the stores. Also, dance seems to sell very well there too. NYC would and could support a current/recurrent leaning dance station, and KTU should really give it a chance. It would also create a unique hole, all their own, for them.

I dont know man, Its like the P.D is smokin PCP or something... Dont get me wrong, I do have alot of respect for the KTU staff, and DJs, and I like KTUs mixshows, but who ever is making these decisions to play THE EAGLES, and JIMMY BUFFET, needs to sober up some....

I dont know if that is a dumb idea at all. I dont think NYC has a country station. That genre keeps growing. We all complain that their isnt enough dance music being played well NYC is countryless.
