OK, Van Halen JUMP into Beyonce "Irreplaceable"

Awesome! HA HA HA. Where are you guys that talked about how good 92.3 sounded when they came out? Do you still feel this way? Do you still think they will give B a run for their money?

What is that station?????? I've got to admit. they are unique. they are Top 40/Soft AC/Hot AC/Classic Hits/Classic Rock all mixed into one. Sounds great! Kinda of like when you mix vodka with beer, with wine, with tequilla, with whiskey....

I heard Hold On Loosely and Twice as Hard with Rihanna in between.

Has anyone else noticed their recent Classic Rock/Classic Hits sound????? It works with Hip Hop

My dream 92.3 song list

Don't Stop Believen
Viva La Vida
Im too Sexy
Jump
Mambo number 5
Smooth
4 mintues to save the world
Linger

Wow. I have never heard such a bizzare mix! Is this a Programmer's delusional dream??? "hmm.. women relate to some hip hop club songs but they like mid 90's bad pop and they love Classic Rocks songs that everybody knows...I've got it!"

92.3 the DRUNK. Music for the Drunkard in you!!!!!!!

Someone enlighten me please!!!!!!!!

Sounds to me that they're in some kinda transitional phase. I've noticed the 80s music has returned since Mcqueen left and still no hip hop/rap. As far as 38 Special, Van Halen, Poison, Def Leppard, Scorpions etc. goes, Im sure they're making use of the old Rock 92.3 library (wise decision=save money??). Nick Bazoo did the same thing when he tried to go all 80s on the station. Thats why the station had so much classic rock even when they were all 80s; they couldnt let go of the old Rock 92.3 library. Those songs may be considered classic rock but they will still work for 80s music because some of that stuff was pop radio back then. Even B97 and Q93 played that stuff when I was growing up in the early 80s.

Now don't get me wrong I love the wide variety , but its not programmed wisely. Im trying to listen as I write this and so far, I have heard no effective way to transition from old to new. Recurrent & current to new is fine. Basically, there needs to be some sort of order put into play for the format to work.

Btw I noticed they are making use of the old 106.7 The End library as well. Kid Rock, Bush, Linkin Park, STP, Pearl Jam etc.

You really answered your own question: "Wow. I have never heard such a bizzare mix!"
It is called "MIX 92.3" and technically anything is a "mix" (country, easy listening, gospel, who knows).

Sounds to me like Li'l Sidney Jr. escaped from the "family businesses inherited by people with no brains" booby hatch and snuck back into the building with a fake moustache and beard on.

Sounds like "Mix 107" here in Lafayette, They are all over the place musically, see sample hour below:

David Lee Roth - California Girls

Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now
06.08.2008 4:19pm
Michael Buble - Lost
06.08.2008 4:22pm
John Mellencamp - Our Country
06.08.2008 4:25pm
Amy Grant - Baby Baby
06.08.2008 4:31pm
Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams
06.08.2008 4:34pm
Nickelback - Photograph
06.08.2008 4:37pm
Better Than Ezra - One More Murder
06.08.2008 4:46pm
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
06.08.2008 4:51pm
Sheryl Crow - Soak Up The Sun
06.08.2008 4:54pm
Pete Townshend - Let My Love Open The Door

http://www.yes.com/#WDVW is a current sample but nah... they get in a good rock groove then break out the Prince... Kind of a Hot A?C does variety like their beginning days again (as Mix 92.3)

But I agree on the heavy rotation on rock 92.3 and 106.7 the end playlists... mix them together and shut down 104.1 IMO

You really answered your own question

ummm....not really...their liner says today's best music.
i didn't know def leppard "photograph" was "today's best music"

Weve been Jacked! Thanks for the heads up! I didnt know! I like it ;D maybe a repositioning coming soon?

I heard tomorrow since its 8/8/08, they're going "All 80s"! Wonder if it will be a good variety of that decades music or if it will be like when it was The Point and play the same 14 songs from the 80s??

Sam

Listened to the 80's thing today and it was ok. Not an expert on the 80's music but it was funny to hear Poison and the video killed the radio star song..

Is this a sign of things to come? The return to ROCK 92.3? and how about changing the call letters back to WCKW as well.

what the hell is 92.3?????????
dont know but my wife and i like it! our kids love listening to it as well. it may be the oddest mix of music on a station in new orleans, but it is all of todays best music. i can listen for hours and not hear repeats! this is nice!

Outside of mornings and afternoons I think I have this thing figured out...clock as follows..2 80s per hour 2 90s per hour..the rest are gold/ recurrents and new from this decade. with no Rap and No Heavy Metal. No poison and Def Leppard are not heavy metal ;D and neither is GNR. Heavy metal---marilyn manson, Pantera, Metallica (80s) etc..

I like this station too! The variety of music is pretty good. I had them on for about 5 hours today and didn't hear one single repeat. I will admit it is kind of unusual to hear the rock on 92.3 since it was Louisiana's Rock for so long, but still it works.

Smashedcd, you've seemed to hit the nail on the head. It's usually about 2 or 3 80's songs an hour, with a new hit following it. And I will agree Poison and Def Leppard are NOT heavy metal. More like rock ballad artists! ;D

I don't really look at books anymore - but I can tell ya - my phones are lighting up. So, there. :p Men, women, kids.... Good times.

Just keep trying to figure us out - I'll take the extra TSL all day long. :)

Cheers!

uhhh...yeah...i like this station too!

sure, it is totally groundbreaking!

this poor station has changed formats so many times you just never know what is going to be on it.

it is sad. who runs this ship???

some consistency with a format and the jocks might do it some justice.

just be SOMETHING. pick a fomat and stay with it. no matter how bad ratings might suck stay with it and be something. changing formats every year and a half or in other times every three months will not help this sinking ship.

a bunch of posters on this board who are anti-clear channel and anti-entercom posting how much they love every new direction 92.3 takes will not result in ratings or revenue though....

just another radio geeks thoughts.....

Well the PD just changed recently so I'll give him a chance.. Jason Ginty does program some good classic rock stations (First at WRNO, now KRDJ) So I'm kind of wondering how he's gonna do 92.3 as it was sounding with a better mix than a few weeks ago... Definitely more rock oriented right now

I'm personally critical of many things and most of the 92.3 formats in the last 10 years have been so-so to horrible so I am kind of wondering where Jason's gonna take this thing....

RFLA

i know jason very well. he rocks and is a great programmer. i hope they allow him to go full on rock and not some type of "women love some 80's metal wannabe sing-a-lomg hits mixed with 80's and 90's pop hits" that some "consultant" dreamed up..........
