What the hell is playing on 93.3 in Binghamton?

So I was driving around today and flipping through the channels, and something or someone took over the 93.3 frequency. At first I heard hip hop, then I heard some Mexican beat box crap, and now they are playing R&B. It seems to be a very strong signal around Windsor for some reason.

Sounds like the new WJOB-FM Susquehanna PA might be up and testing...licensed to the Urban League of Broome County and transmitting from Great Bend.

(Sure enough...website and all: http://wjobfm.com/)

Wow! I cannot believe this but...WJOB-FM is placing their antenna on Hickory Knob in Great bend, PA. This is the original 1989 location of WKGBFM (I built this). To say it was a nightmare is an understatement. The owner of this site use to show up at our doorstep drunk demanding Tshirts and other crap. Eventually he chased us from the site with a battery of attorneys over a so called problem with an easement for the tower. Of course we were just tenants of Rochester Tel who were...to say the least...crappy landlords. When the Broome urban league discovers their mistake they'll have spent tens (or hundreds) of thousands. Oh...and its a crappy site! When they realize this error they should call me...I'll set them up at a real site that covers Binghamton where WCDW is currently located just north of the border from this Great Bend site.

What's interesting to me is that they seem to be targetting both the African American and Latino communities of Binghamton with their programming. It should be interesting to see what their permanent schedule will look like. Whether it will be a typical Hip-Hop/R&B format with weekend specialty shows (Reggae, Gospel, Latin, Smooth Jazz), or if it will be staffed by community volunteers and have more of a block programming format. Keep in mind, this is actually a non-commercial station.

Agree that it's a poor site from a coverage perspective, but I think they chose it to make the 307(b) 1st or 2nd service numbers look good. Three years from now, they can probably move north, as long as WNTQ remians protected.

The website looks like just a test as well, the Live stream is blank, the playlist link goes to a page with old music news as do most of the links on the page.

Good point about the 307b rule...didn't think of that. I was in JC last weekend...signal not good...better on the east side, still rough. Comes in great in Hallstead and Great Bend. Until they move this it is a PA signal....hmmm...FM booster? They have so little signal in NY interference is not the issue....Windy Hill would be the location...see KGB FM Booster circa 1990...

The ideal tower on Windy Hill, the WINR site, has the "NO VACANCY" light lit. There's already a dozen isocouplers across the base of the tall tower, and the owner doesn't want any more.

Hallstead and great bend are heavy into rap....
It will be interesting to hear how they schedule the station when it launches. Right now, it seems to be a free-for-all of rap, soul, R&B, dance, electronica, and pop.
