What the hell is this?

I just put the radio on. Somehow it ended up on AM 1290. They are currently playing the theme to The Odd Couple. Now they just switched over to something called Here and Now where the lady host is interviewing a band that she said has played here in Boston. HERE IN BOSTON? I think she's got the wrong city. I feel like I'm listening to the black hole of radio. Not sure what this is. Does anyone ever listen to AM 1290?

Since "Here & Now" is produced by Boston's WBUR....It's very likely the interivew with those musicians was taking place in Boston.

This link should explain the rest:

I listen to WRNI a lot on my Wifi radio. It's one of my favorite NPR stations, along with KPCC in Los Angeles, WNYC in New York and KUOW in Seattle.

Did you ever watch Jay Leno on Providence's WJAR-TV Channel 10?

Ever hear Jay refer to "here in Hollywood"?

Whats wrong with a host referring to the town they are in?

Nothing wrong with it. I was just wondering what it was I was listening to. Had no clue what show this was. That was my point.

You have never listened to public radio & NPR before?

Were you aware that Providence had an NPR station?

When I accidently came across the station and made my original post, I did not put two and two together. I flipped it on and heard the Odd Couple theme. I think that threw me off. I've listened to some NPR before, but still never heard this show. Didn't remember that NPR was on 1290 either. Now I do. Thanks to you guys I will never forget again.

Did it ever occur to you that the hosts of the show that you were listening to somehow just don't get along (hence the theme song choice)? :D

Never listened to AM1290... and now I think I won't ever! Good grief! What are they thinking? Wasting all that potential with such dribble. WHO is advertising on these little stations???

Oops... my bad. 1290AM is the NPR station and I have listened to it. blush.

It's a bad sign when you've heard it and you forgot about it. SEE.. That is what happened to me too!!! lol. I guess 1290 isn't a very memorable frequency.

1290 might not be very memorable in that stylish "snazzy" kind of way, BUT......Since winning thier independence from Boston University, they've made great strides in imporving coverage of local news, and has also beefed up its news gathering operation.

Plus...from what I can tell...they seem to make the very most of thier 10 KW. Thier ground system would seem to be intact and functioning...AND...they don't have TWO leaning towers that are ready to do a suicide run anytime soon...LOL...LOL...LOL.

I didn't think this warranted a brand new thread, so I replied to the existing one that I felt would be the most appropriate...

Skynet74: Today on Sean Hannity's radio show, he was taking calls on how to deal with your liberal relatives on Thanksgiving, and he took a call from "John from Rhode Island." Since I know a person with that criteria, I felt I would ask. ;D

Hahaha.... No... I almost never call talk shows. The last one I called was Joan Rivers when WPRO had her fill in for a few days back in 2003. Thanks for thinking of me though ;D

Rhode Island is merely a county of Massachusetts.

I often think if they removed the borders and made it part of Connecticut things would be better. But that might be a problem since Rhode Island shares several names with Connecticut. Bristol, Greenwich, Riverside. Might be confusing. OK... I'll go with your idea then. Massachusetts it is! I'm all for it. Where do I vote? ;)
