What Time Is It?

I was listening to WKQK on the way to the movie theater on Saturday. They tried to get tricky with the VT and it backfired. I heard the guy introduce the song and then wrap it up by saying: “it’s 1:45.” I looked at my watch and noticed that the current time was 12:53 pm. I'm glad I wasn't counting on them to get me to the film at the right time.

Here's what gets me: with the proliferation of clocks on every two-bit piece of electronic baggage we're saddled with these days, does the radio really need to tell us the time? Seems like it would simplify things to just never mention the time, or at least the hour, when VT'ing.

Just a casual glance around my bedroom and I have NINE clocks within eyesight. Oy.

If I had nine clocks in my house (and I probably do, they're just all in different rooms!), I would see nine different times! At least, I try to make sure that they are all about five minutes fast! (Except for the VCR/DVD player, which I try to keep less than one minute fast.) The problem for me is if I were to set them all to the right (or at least the same) time, we would have a power outage, after which I would be forced to start all over again! ::) Even my battery (backup) powered clocks tend to gain time while the battery is taking over during power outages! At least the battery backups prevent me from having to reset every clock following a power flash! (Although I usually must reset them following lengthy power outages.)

Oh...come on yall....he just left off the word "eastern."

I worked at abc here in Dallas and we would say it 15 past or 20 til the hour ( I though it sounded dumb but it was the best we could do) .

Not only did I NOT give the time when voice-tracking our automated FM station, I didn't even give the current temperature with the forecasts, which really made me the odd man out! I learned rather quickly that the damned automation would play my liners at every time except for when I wanted them to play, so I learned fairly quickly to CYA!!

And that's why I HATE voice-tracking. Radio should be LIVE 24/7.

Radio is LIVE -- voice-tracking is just pre-recorded semi-entertainment.

We were live...on the AM! While simultaneously voice-tracking the FM! Hate voice-tracking? Try actually DOING it, then getting blamed for it when the damn thing screws up!!

For those who want the correct time...forget the radio, use the Naval Observatory app on Ipod.
As a matter of fact, with all the apps available on Ipod, I can't possibly imagine anyone needing a radio station, no matter how good the talent or the music. Traffic, weather, etc. all there on the Ipod. You program it, dont have to wade through endless palaver to get to your favorite music.

Or a Blackberry, that will work too.

Ahhh, the good old days...are here and now. Entertainment and Information choices are now yours to control, not some faraway "programming guru" or corporate suit.

I'm just sayin'...radio as we knew it, ain't coming back.

I like the time on the radio because I get ready in the bathroom and walk-in closet where I have zero clocks. ;D

K~

Once again I seem to be the only one with overkill, then. I got two in there, three if I bring my mp3 player. One on the shower radio and one on my razor's charging stand. ;D

I'm curious: can any of the iPods crossfade between tracks, or can that be added on somehow? I just replaced the awful firmware of my ancient iriver H320 with the free Rockbox open source jukebox firmware and it kicks major buttock. The number of options are bewildering; before it was just a basic mp3 player with radio. Now it does video, playlists recording, picture/coverflow, etc. Sweet.

Last time I checked, a cell phone will tell you the time without voice tracking or a cuckoo.
