what to do with 92.1??

Does anyone have any information on what will ultimately happen with 92.1 KQJZ? Will the Christian music format hold up in this area when KNLE 88.1 already has similar programming. (and a better signal overall) Although KXPW up in Georgetown really isn't much of an Austin influence, it also plays the same type of upbeat Christian hit music. Can they all last?? Remember folks, this is FAR from a Dallas market!! :)

KQJZ is being operated as a non-commercial station, as are KNLE and KXPW. I doubt they really care how well they compete with each other. As I understand it, K-Love affiliates, like KQJZ, are nothing more than a computer to play the legal ID at the transmitter site complete with automated transmitter equipment. Once-in-awhile, you see K-Love sell if it can acquire another signal in the market, but that doesn't happen often.

Re: what to do with 92.1?? (& 106.3)?

I wished KCTI would re buy 106.3 KQQT I miss that station on FM, wonder if they ever thought about getting KTXX? That would be good to have a home town radiostation to listen to again, I gues KCTI couldnt aford the 423' stick over there at Lulling, I dont think that signal can reach no more then South Austin anyways I never tried it on the north side.

Those three signals are also decent in the north Travis/south Williamson county area, where a good percentage of the target demos are. KXPW actually gets out pretty well for a LP, from what I can tell on recent visits to Austin.

The New Braunfels 92.1 is a roadblock for any upgrade to KQJZ.

I am pretty familiar with the situation, so i'll chime in. KQJZ is owned and operated by EMF. The station is non-commercial and with the except of a community calendar and local ID is just a network feed from Sacramento. While KQJZ singal doesn't look too good on paper the signal actually covers everything north of downtown to Georgetown pretty well.

In addition EMF picked up a CP for 91.9 in Dripping Springs (KLOW) but with KOOP and KVRX i am not sure is there much they can do with it.

As for the so-called competition. KNLE doesn't have much focus and is all over the board. Everytime i tune in i hear Christian country.

KXPW is trying hard and they sound pretty good for a LP. Their audience is much younger than KNLE and K-LOVE. Some of their "underwriting" though sounds like commercials to me.

Although I dont know a whole lot about the in's and out's of christian programming, I cant expect too many are listening to KXPW. Although my boy Kent says they really don't care much, it still is pretty limiting which their signal. Pretty much georgetown and the northern parts of Round Rock. Sure I have picked them up clearly in Northwest Austin (where I live), but its really only a 5-10 mile radius of quality sound.

All of the Christian signals in this town are pretty weak. KNLE is probably the best, but still only makes it into south austin and is unreliable at best in the western hills.

Let me clarify something. I'm sure they care about their donations and pledge drives, but I don't see them as caring much about how many listeners they have versus KNLE or KXPW.

Yeah Kent, i figured that. They all care to some extent, but you gotta wonder sometimes with these puny signals. KCCV is a similar situation. Who the hell is listening to them?? But, at least their signal covers a good 75% of metro KC. Mainly west and south of course.

I don't think anyone but Dick Bott is going to argue that KCCV and the entire Bott Radio Network is lackluster and stale. With exception to their Saint Louis signal most of there stations are rimshots or in really small markets. The real problem thought is that the programming is not compelling.

Being in Christian Radio i can atest that everyone cares about people listening and even ratings. We do not however live and die by the ratings. That's the difference.
