WHAT TO DO WITH THE SCORE FM?

A

I know some board op is going to come on kicking and screaming about how successful the station is because the brother and sister stations keep it afloat which is like bragging that you have a rich relative so you don't have to work. But in spite of saving money by cutting Coach, is keeping this station on FM really worth it? Couldn't Citadel make better use of that frequency with some male oriented format like classic rock or even an active/classic mix like KKB was but without the college quality jocks? Since CC hasn't messed with HJY yet (but they will) should they wait until the home of rock and roll is a little more vulnerable and do something?

I've never been a big fan of putting "TALK" on the FM Band. I personally think the quality of AM is perfectly fine for talk radio. It sounds fine. Save the FM Band for music where sound quality is more important.

Here is what my lineup for The Score would be:
0600-1000 - Mancow
1000-1200 - Tony Bruno
1200-1500 - Jim Rome
1500-1800 - Don and Mike
1900-2200 - Tom Leykis
2200-0000 - Love Line
0000-0600 - John and Jeff

I like their line-up just fine. Gresh and Zo in the morning are a scream and a must listen if you're a sports fan. They're absolutely hilarious yet they know their stuff, especially on football. A fun fun listen.
Scott and Brian also do a nice job in the afternoon. Much more low key but that's fine.
Jim Rome is very unique with what he does.
All in all a high caliber product on that station. It's hard with WEEI being so dominant in this market and I do listen to WEEI at times but these guys at 790 the score do a really fine job. They really are good.
We are so SPOILED in this market with the variety and quality we have. We really are spoiled.
Keep 790 The Score just the way it it. It's a fine station.

Radiohead, The question is about the 99.7 simulcast of the Score, not the whole station. As we said before 99.7 as a simulcast is a complete waste of time.
Sell the station to Geater Media and make it an FM talker.

Why in the HELL WHJJ is not running John and Jeff overnites is beyond me. John is a local person from Smithfield.

Maybe WEEI-FM would lkie to consider running John and Jeff.
Yes, I know its a sports stion but O'nites are canned anyway and its from 1 amm to 5 am. I dont think it would hurt them at all.

Not to get off topic but I don't get radiohead06's comment about how spoiled we are in the market. We have a CHR, an urban, 2 ACs, a classic hits, 2 talkers, 2 sports stations, & 1 country. I don't have any problem with comments on The Score but I don't see Providence as a market where listeners are spoiled. The format choices are similar to most medium markets & in some cases quality has gone downhill over the past 5 years. With the exception of Cat Country, programming comes from 2 radio groups & some formats exist only because they make sense from the point of view of other stations in the cluster. I'm not saying a niche format would work here but I wouldn't say "spoiled" is the correct term.

No one runs John and Jeff because, regardless as to where the host was raised, it's a terrible, terrible show and the programming peeps at WHJJ and WPRO both agree about that. (Plus PRO would be crazy to give up Coast to Coast).

Tolduso, I would never suggest WPRO dump Coast to Coast. As for J and J they are like Quinn and Cantara in some ways but without the music.
As for the show bing bad I dont think it is. I am no 36 and the show intresting if I am working late.
I believe and someone correct me if I am wrong I beleve Bill George and John were both at RIC at the same time. I I heard John say he worked for RIC's station once and I know Bill did too.
What does WHJJ run now during th night? Dont look at thier website either. Its nothing spectacular. I have no idea.

I hardly think that Brangiforte and Michael Rock are college quality Jocks....what makes you think that?????? KKB was starting to do pretty good when they were sold...sux. I enjoyed them. They had some damn good music.

HITTING 2 years as of January 31 since KKB has been off the air :(

And to the person who mentioned they want Mancow on in the morning instead of O & A. I have no clue what they are smoking. O & A are a 10x better morning show than Mancow (yes, that is simply an opinion...but I believe it is the opinion shared by many)

jock, when I say we're spoiled in this market I'm not talking the actual stations that broadcast from RI. I'm talking any and all stations that can be tuned into from this market area. We are definiltey spoiled around here. The variety of sound and talk is amazing.

Too bad your average joe schmo listener doesn't even bother to consider Boston radio as a listening option other than for sports talk. You can't say it's because of localism other than talk radio because the only local touches are in the morning with brief newscasts done by co hosts on music stations.
