What to look for tomorrow

Here's some things you can be looking for when the fall book comes out:
1. The top spot--WYRK and WBEN have been trading spaces at #1 for the past few years, but it will be interesting to see if 'YRK can hold on to #1 and remain the most dominant station in the region. I think they will; Dobson may have added an audience to WBEN but we won't know till the spring.
2. 97 Rock--expect a peak in listenership because of the Bills
3. Wild 101 will continue to bleed an audience. For some reason, their style just doesn't appeal to me like Kiss's does
4. WGR--I think is primed for their most sucessful book as an all-sports station because of the Sabre's success, possibly a 4 share this time around, maybe a little more
5. Jack vs. Lake--the battle of the "Play what you want" stations is on--expect Lake to take the title this time around

WECK switched too late into this ratings period so we won't know the impact until spring.

To round it up:
Winners--Kiss, 97 Rock, WGR, WYRK, Star
Losers--Jack, Wild 101
Even--JYE, WBEN, Lake

Sounds reasonable but a couple added questions...
1)What happens to 'KB?
2)What happens to WBLK?
3)What happens to Edge 103.3?

I'm also not sure we'll see Jack's disappearance from the rankings until the winter book is released in April. The fall book will include the Stern audience bidding its farewell, through December 16 (which not coincidentally was not only Stern's last day on broadcast radio but the last day of the fall book).

BLK, I think, will see some increase as they have been over the past few books with people still getting used to the new morning show.
The Edge, which shares Bills radio rights with sister station 97 Rock, will also see a big rise from their 4 share from the fall.
KB will continue to fall flat--they really haven't done much to draw more listernership.

My mini-prediction is that "Jack" gets a little bump from Howard's last days plus their TV campaign. I say The Lake is flat or down. Do they promote themselves anymore? I'll be interested to see the WHTT numbers as well.

I agree that Jack will be up, but with Stern gone, it's all downhill from here.

Kiss will be up a little, but 35-44 females, which should actually concern Star.

I think that The Lake will suffer from the gains by Jack. Jukebox-lovers have a newer jukebox with different music. There's nothing else on The Lake to keep them there, and Prozac-voice-guy and the chirping crickets are more annoying every time I hear them - which is less and less often.

I'm interested to see how the Christmas Battle between WJYE and Star plays out, and if WHTT benefits from those listeners who just couldn't stomach 24/7 Christmas music for over a month. I think WHTT will be up from a year ago, but down a little from the last book.

I think 97-Rock (and maybe The Edge) will get a boost from the Bills, but not as big a bump as a year ago because of the disappointing season.

The Sabres will help WGR, but not as much as they could if somebody would straighten out significant programming problems.

KB won't equal the numbers of the computer-in-a-closet known as 1400 AM, and deservedly so.

WYRK will beat WBEN. They will be 1-2 12+. WBEN's audience will still be top-heavy and skewed male.

WECK will have its last decent book. By spring, they'll be in a dog-fight with WXRL - and I hope Ramblin' Lou, Betty Lou, Bobbie Lou, Sissy Lou, and the rest of the family kick their butt.

Re: OK, I'll Bite

I'm expecting Jack to fall flat or be down, but I could be wrong.
I'm also expecting, that with Sabres doing so well, the audience for that to increase...but the good question remains...do people turn down their tv and listen to the radio for hockey? That would help...<P ID="signature">______________

Sabres have been doing brilliant marketing these days, too bad their radio affiliate does not match that brilliance. The intent is there, but what comes out of the speakers... i don't know.

Exchanging TV for radio? the bills tried that. With football, there is anticaption with only one game/week. Hockey is a little too frequent.

Jack is good, but could be better. the discussion is out there, but didnt some pick the ideal 6a-12 mid line-up should jocks be in the future.

Any thoughts?
