What was 100.3 before KIQQ?

I tried to find some information for 100.3, which was K100 which had changed format to top-40 back in 1972. I'm not sure what call letters & format before the top-40 debuted in that era. When did they also change their format from top-40 to soft rock? I know it was either 1975 or 76, I'm not sure. Then in 1989 it became KQLZ which was "Pirate", then KXEZ, which was soft rock, KIBB, then KCMG which was a rhythmic oldies format, before they've flipped formats again to KKBT (R&B/hip-hop) in 2000, which it is today. Tell us what you think.

It was KFOX-FM, a similcast of 1280AM. KFOX FM moved from 102.3 in 1965 to 100.3, creating KJLH. Prior to KFOX 100.3 was KMLA.

Thanks for the link... answered one of my long time questions too about "Pirate Radio" on what happened on the last day Shannon was on the air... "Z-100 has left the building"... I boycotted them when they went all hard rock in '91 so until now, I didn't know what happened...

Don't you listeners on the West Coast want Shannon back? 95.5 WPLJ in NY has to be one of the most boring stations on the air. I've heard his oldies format at one time and give him a lot of credit for what he did with Z100 back in 1983, but I don't get WPLJ.

WPLJ is a female-targeted AC, which is why you "don't get it." You are not supposed to.

Personally, I would love to have Shannon back here... 'PLJ is 10x as interesting as any station we have out here in L.A. The last station we had in this market with any sense of personality was Country KZLA... The dj's were very personable and they enjoyed what they were doing. It showed on the air, though sometimes the music mix was a little questionable... Now that they are gone, the station with the most personality here in L.A. is (gasp) JACK FM!!!

If I want to listen to "interesting" contemporary radio, I tune into the Hot AC's north of me, or KFRG in Riverside if I happen to be traveling south.

Does anyone remember the late, great Jack Lacy on KIQQ?

Are you talking about the Jack Lacy who worked most of his career at TEN-TEN WINS New York?? He was a legend! A great gentleman... I was just a pre-pubescent teen when I heard him live on WINS. Heard some airchecks of him on WINS back in the late 50s or early 60s at one of the aircheck sites (can't remember which). Did a google on him and found the link below.

Indeed, the very same--"Listen to Lacy, the guy with the style, spinnin' a disc with finesse, yes, yes.." Jack Lacy was one of the best ever. You may recall he left TEN-TEN WINS NEW YORK when the station flipped to all-news. I believe he retired from KIQQ. The last time I ever heard him was during the 1989 'CBS-FM rock 'n' roll radio greats reunion weekend. He still sounded great!
