What was I hearing on 88.9?

I've noticed that occasionally I get a religious station on 88.9 that is definitely not WJMJ because it pops in and overrides WJMJ. It's a preaching/CCM station with a much narrower Christian message than WJMJ. Today I heard a preacher reminding listeners that no matter what anyone tells you, all men are not brothers -- those who don't accept Christ are only neighbors, and one must tolerate them rather than fully accept them as equals. This was followed at the bottom of the hour by "This what hope sounds like," then a collage of snatches of CCM songs, no ID at all.
I only hear this station in two locations: at the top of the hill at the Meriden-Wallingford line on Rt. 5, and on a short section of I-691 and Rt. 322 in Southington. Any idea what it might be? When it disappears, WJMJ reappears at full strength.

Probably WFRS Smithtown from Long Island.
Thanks. Next time I hear it I'll compare the programming with that of WCTF 1170 Vernon. Weird reception of LI stations is not new to me. I get the classic hits translator at 98.1 from there quite well at my Rt. 5 location in Meriden, but it's gone by the time I've driven a quarter mile in either direction and doesn't return until I'm almost to New Haven on 91. Is there an explanation for these isolated pockets of reception of stations whose signals shouldn't be getting into normal radios in that area at all?

I have the same experience too, WFRS aka Family Radio taking over WJMJ in my bedroom along with several LI stations 40+ miles away on a regular basis because there's a huge mountain with several full powered FM stations in Meriden blocking Hartford stations very well in the neighborhood opposed to the areas near i-91. Even 88.7 WNHU bleeds over WJMJ very well because of the huge 1 edge path on some sets. Never once I got WJMJ crystal clear 15 miles away for long since 2018 when they moved the tower to Rattlesnake and upgrading it to HD.

I only seem to hear WJMJ-FM. I stay in the north end of Middletown, where it's quite spotty. The signal is marginal by Walmart on CT 372 in Cromwell. It improves quite a bit once near the exits for CT 9 and the Berlin Turnpike in Berlin.

I didn't realize they had left Johnnycake Mountain in Burlington. I would think they're hemmed in due to WNHU-FM 88.7 (West Haven) and WRTC-FM 89.3 (Hartford).

Actually, I was curious about this and the Johnnycake Mountain location appears to be listed as the backup site on the FCC FMQ search page

It's right when you drive past Castle Craig/West Peak on 691 that the other religious station from LI starts to interfere. One time in May 2021 I was listening to Spirit in the Sky on WJMJ- the song started right when I got off I-91 and onto 691 in Meriden, and I was hoping it would finish before I arrived at the point where you lose WJMJ near the Southington town line. Unfortunately, the end of the song was cut off. When you merge onto I-84 WJMJ is back.

Sounds like really nice church folks, NOT!
