What was up with 106.7 last night?

Got back into Nashville around 8:00 last night. Set the radio on scan and heard... country music... on 106.7. After a few minutes a song ended, there were a few whup-whups like the tone arm had reached the end of the record, then dead air, then finally ESPN in mid-promo.

What was up with that?

Jetfli, I will need a second witness to verify your story. Since 106.7 has fewer listeners than TDOT 1680AM, I must file your 106.7 country music story under fiction.

Probably an ESPN Promo or you were catching the tail end of a long spot.

No and no. Either the ESPN feed was temporarily lost and music was used to fill the gap, or they picked up the wrong feed, or they were conducting a test, or some such. No there was definitely a problem behind it.

They might be getting ready to flip formats. Back in the late 90's, while they were 106.7 The Planet. I tuned in late one night and heard Kiss 106.7. I thought damn, they done switched formats, but the next day, they were back to the Planet again. This went on for a couple of days, and finally Kiss 106.7 was born, and the Planet was no more. To this day, that rattles my brain. True story though.

Surely they wouldn't flip to country?

(They would flip to country, and don't call me...)
