What WHPT should sound like

I haven't been on here since before christmas..,kinda funny you mentioned me with this :) but yeah I know this station.. this is what 102.5 should be like. Tampa Bays Best Rock..should mean Todays Rock from Mainstream Rock, Active Rock and yesterdays Metal,Hair,80s classics and 90s best. Like how YNF did back in 1990.. played 2 new songs per hour and rest classics.

Also just to note.. 102.5 Tampa Bays Best Rock.... umm how about playing

Disturbed
Godsmack
Shinedown
Rise Against
Avenge Sevenfold

Start with that over the past 8 years. Are they afraid to play "Metal" outside of Metallica?
Where is Megadeth,Anthrax,Iron Maiden???? Ok I'm starting to troll... Music Directors dont
care about the listeners anyways.

PS 98 Rock still sucks playing recurrents of songs 6 months old. When will PDs understand that people want to hear "New Music" not Recurrents.... your samplings suck, try a poll on your station website to see what people want! Duh................

Go figure distantfm. "Everything that Rocks" is the same slogan used by WZZP 97.5 in Clarksville, Tn. Also owned by Saga Communications. Sound like that station too!

I still like rock945.com or Rock 94 1/2 out of Washington.. They play like 7-8 current songs 2-3 recurrents and 2-3 songs from over 2 years ago. So its 60% New Active Rock and 40% recurrents and older. It's the old Z-Rock PD from way back when. He plays all top 25 Active rock on high rotation.

There are many other radio stations like this throughout the country.. but most are NOT Clearchannel or Cox or CBS.. but some are.

I just feel Active rock stations should play mostly New Current Music... Classic Rock stations should play all Rock from 80s-90s.. from Hair,Metal,Grunge.... or if you want "Tampa Bays Best Rock"..102.5 should play what I just listed as "Classic Rock" but also add the Disturbed,Godsmack,Avenged...anything that is popular today 2-3 plays a hour.

Some of these "Good" Rock stations are owned by smaller companies than Crap Channel and Cox. Like Cromwell Group, Saga Communications and a few others. Some large-sized companies but not nearly as large as Cox, C.C and CBS.

Umm...those bands are already being (over)played by Cox stablemate 97X. You will hear very little from them on WHPT (unless it's perhaps a older super-familiar hit like "Voodoo"), and "The Bone" is probably better off not playing them, as they are aiming at the older end of 98Rock's audience (the folks who's days of "musical discovery" ended with grunge). They are also protecting 97X, which provides younger listeners to the Cox cluster.

Cox is doing something similar in Jacksonville with (97X clone) WXXJ and (very Bone-like) Mainstream Rock WFYV. Seems to work for 'em. Add this to the failure of Active Rock 93Rock in Miami, and it's a no-go for an Active Rock on WHPT.

As for 98Rock, any change in format would be detrimental at this point, as they are currently doing better in the ratings than they have in a while (mostly by pumping up the older Grunge/Alt/Classic Rock selections). If they start to slide, though, get ready for News-Talk WFLA-FM.

98Rock's ratings haven't done much.. they went up alittle cause they started to play more music awhile back. Also younger generation likes more of todays Metal bands (which even though 98Rock really doesnt play... 97X defidently dont play. 97X is still mostly a Alternative Station and that scene has been dead outside of Rise Against and is only kept going by the 18-22 year old college people scene or the people that still where them flannel shirts from 1996.. just like the PD for 98Rock.. the Recurrent Rock station... playing music that is 6-9months old but they say "Here is a new song from Avenged Sevenfold... "Nightmare".

Anyways, I really dont get Radio and their target range.. they want a certain age range... like 98Rock wants 12-34 (same with 97X but more alternative in format) and the "Boner" aims at 24-44... How about they all aim at 12-44. Play all gernerations.
97X can play Alternative from 1985-Current (more current alternative rock)
98Rock can play Active Rock/Mainstream from 1984-Current (more current Active rock)
WHTP can play Active Rock/Mainstream from 1984-Current (more hairbands/metal)

Expand the audiance....

93Rock failed horribly cause they were worse than 98rock playing almost No New Rock at all. It was horrible down there. They had some ratings..but there was no competition..just no direction and revenue was dismal.

Wjrr does mix in more New Rock.. and has a 1 hour of New Rock at 11pm.. mostly active rock but does play more Active rock bands in normal rotation.. just still too much in between sublime crap they need to drop... but they are listed as Alternative.. so I dont blame them for playing that.

Oh well... my complaining like alot of others wont matter.. thank god for rock945.com and dozens of other Active rock stations outside of florida that play what should be played.

100% correct... only a few good CC,Cox,CBS stations out there.. cause they have a great PD that knows what the people want to hear.

All I say is a station should post up on their webpage for a weekend.. put a list up of what people want to hear or call in and say... then tally it up... and play that music.! like old 98Rock did in 1990..
