What will 540 become

if Dan Sileo is moving over to 740 who or what will occupy the morning slot on 540...are they moving Bud from PM to AM drive? Saw that they have an opening for morning producer...you'd think of all the layoffs someone would be qualified to fill that position.

Tampa's 970 has Jack Harris and Tedd Webb.... I'd be more inclined to think that Bud will move to mornings and the Schnitt show will be back in PM drive.

Someone in Tampa siad either Phillips is in a simulcast or they go to the talk host that fills in for Bud. Joe Pags..I don't see Phillips on a simulcast. The Tampa connection alos says they are talking with several syndicators about nights rather than use thier own talent, if there are any left..

A radical and possibly dumb idea. Why not just merge WTKS and WFLF? Have 104.1 the talk station and then use 540 am for possibly a return to 50's and 60's oldies. Memories of WGTO.

I doubt they'd try music on AM, but moving Beck and Rush to 104.1 would be a really excellent idea. Dump the Monsters and put Burke in AM drive.

With that huge bandwidth @ 540, oldies would sound as good as an FM. Big 12+ numbers but little agency money. Can anybody in Orlando sell local direct?

"Huge bandwidth at 540?"

I've heard that lower-frequency AM antenna installation tend not to be as broadband (without some upgrading), as the percentage of bandwidth required to generate a 10 kHz spread is higher on the low end of the band than the high end.

10 kHz / 540 kHz = 10/540 = 1.85 percent

10 kHz / 1600 kHz = 10/1600 = .625 percent

Recalling my own experience, high-end stations often seemed to sound brighter than low-end ones

I hear an announcement is coming regarding Bud..I guess he is finally moving to mornings... syndi. in PM drive. Is BJ coming to O'town again..or will it be business talk..and at night Justin Lewis?

My bet is Bud moves to mornings as you said then Beck and Rush and filling the 3-6 slot will be Randy Rhodes. She's been picked up by Premiere Radio Networks and guess who owns them - Clear Channel! She goes live on May 11 from 3pm until 6pm. Rush, Beck and Hannity are all syndicated by Premiere.

Why wouldn't they move Hannity over to 540 instead, when his contract with WDBO runs out?

I wouldn't be suprised if 540 picked up Randi Rhodes from Premiere.

I know one thing 540 should become: WFLF! Am I the only one who thinks its wierd that WFLF calls itself WFLA? Last time I checked WFLA was sitting on 970 in Tampa. And lets not forget the FM up in Tallahassee. I mean, what keeps CC from branding all of their talkers in FL WFLA, or for that matter, ALL of their stations!!

Whew, somebody stop me. ;D Too much caffiene, too early in the day................

There's also an FM in Panama City (94.5) which uses the "WFLA" moniker. The original concept was just that: to brand all their Florida talkers as "WFLA."

The FCC used to go after stations for using "false and deceptive identifiers." Guess they don't do that anymore.

I believe they can use the FLA moniker as long as they do a proper ID at the top of the hour.
As far as the original question; What will 540 become, the answer is: BORING. Dave Ramsey is no competition for Hannity. What are they thinkin'? Looks to me like they are waiting for Hannity's contract to run on WDBO and then WFLF could grab him. Back in December Sean signed a deal with Citadel (ABC) and Premiere Radio (Clear Channel's syndication arm) where the agreement was for ABC Radio Networks (Citadel) to continue syndicating the program on Citadel-owned stations while Premiere Radio will syndicate the program on Clear Channel-owned stations as well as radio stations not owned by either company. I have no idea how long Sean's deal runs with Cox owned WDBO, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him move down the dial.

What will 540 become?

A shadow of it's former self??

It's amazing that with their 50,000 watt daytime signal, they always seem to lag behind WDBO 580 and they have RUSH L to boot; usually stations that carry RUSH are the number one talk stations in their market, but somehow WFLF/WFLA 540 has managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!!

They have 50,000 watts day, nearly 50,000 watts night; the most desirable frequency on the AM band, they have Rush L; and still they trail WDBO in the ratings. They're amazing!

It's not the most desirable. AM580 at 5,000 watts off a tower on Lee Road is MUCH more desirable than AM540 which is highly directional, too low on the dial, and very susceptible to electricity. Power means nothing in this case.

Sounds as though maybe Clear Channel blew it on this last CP, moving their towers to the 740 transmitter site and changing nighttime pattern and lowering wattage to 46,000....... sounds as though they should have sought a more central location and maybe lesser power without a directional daytime pattern. (or not as severe of a directional pattern)

At any rate, the still have Rush, which puts most stations on the map; I'm still amazed that they lag behind WDBO in the ratings.

Maybe most people are like me, between the two I prefer WDBO for more intense local news and more local news and weather more often. I'm not a talk radio fan per se; but when visiting my parents in that area, if I want Orlando news or weather on the AM band I do go to 580 first, even though where they live the 540 signal is much stronger than WDBO.
