What will Alex Langer do with 1410 in Brockton?

Could it become a news/talker like his WFYL 1180 here in the Philly area, or go the way of WSRO ?

I would've rather seen 1410 become the leased Haitian voice of Brockton than if that's the direction 1460 is headed...

I hear they sold the property and the towers are comming down, so I wonder what they will do for an antenna. Maybe a non-directional one tower with lower power somewhere else. ???

I wonder if they are thinking of trying to diplex with the recently bought 1460? Then again, they might be too close on the dial to do that. 1410 could go ND with 250 watts day and substantially lower power at night (to protect WPOP/Hartford). The last time I saw the existing 1410 towers (20+ years ago) they already looked pretty bad due to wear and tear and poor maintenance. But if the towers are going bye-bye, where could 1410 possibly go to? The nearby NIMBYS would go nuts for any new tower construction. Believe me, I know. I helped on the original proofs of 1460 (then WBET) during the summer of 1990. The "neighbors" in W. Bridgewater were not exactly the most pleasant of people, at times.

The site is owned by AG Financial, as in "Assemblies of God Financial," who must've been the note holder for the station. The towers were just transferred to their ownership from Hispanic Broadcasters, even though AG has actually owned the site since at least 2008-ish... the paperwork is being cleaned up. Sounds like a sale could be in the future.

The asset purchase agreement does spell out, however, that the seller will try to ensure that the site remains available to Langer for broadcast use, even if the land changes owners.

What's 5.4 acres in Brockton worth these days?

Since its officially a daytimer (156 watts at night does not qualify it as a full-time station), it has some value to be moved somewhere else.... like Laramie, Wyoming (example). Remember, the 1050 in Peterborough NH that through a "minor change" morphed into 650 in Asland MA.

1410 is fulltime if it runs at night. The 156 watt night power makes it a Class D, which other stations aren't required to protect from interference at night. Threshold for protection at night is 250 watts, or 141 mV/meter @ 1 km.

I'd be willing to bet that in recent years, they had been running the full 1 kw at night. I used to easily be able to null it out to pick up WPOP, but that was quite difficult during the "Power 1410" years...
