Those of you who heard the Jack to CBS-FM switch in NY would've found the sweep building up to the 1:04 p.m. format switch very familiar (although our version started in 1965 and went through the entire 80s).
And the top of hour? Just replace Sinatra singing "New York New York" with "My Kind of Town" and the call letters and you'd think you were listening to CBS-FM.
So far (and admittedly, it's early) this station sounds more into the 80s and probably more rock-hits oriented than CBS-FM. Eddie and JoBo sound great though!
You could have knocked me over with a feather when they went with a jingle between songs a little while ago. I didn't expect that. Gives more of an energetic top-40 feel to the format than many of those very dull "classic hits" stations.
The strange thing was that The sweep that used Ziggy Pelzer's voice to say K-Hits 104.3 voice once the station launched it had a different production voice. I guess they wanted the K-Hits voice to be a surprise for after 1:04 CST. Ziggy would have made it sound too much like WCBS-FM and used him because he has ties to Chris Angelo and the production department at CBS-FM where the sweep originated. WCBS FM's PD Brian Thomas is the VP and format captain for all CBS Radio Classic Hits stations.
Great station so far, big sounding processing (what they are using?). Sounds very vintage and 80's-like. Maybe they fired up some old Orban 8100 with a set of prisms ;-)?
The jingles reminds me of Z100, the flamethrower.
The stream sounds pretty good also... Have been having a blast listening this afternoon... Heck I feel like it is 1984 all over with the jingles and such... Too bad I live here in Rockford or I would have to give my Sirius a break and tune in... Great job so far... CC1
