What will Entercom do?

Now that the former Barnstable stations are in the Garlington Rd. building, it's time to wonder what Entercom may do in the future. I'm still thinking that at some point, 93.3 will go by the wayside. Their morning show may do well (#1 they claim, but definately not across the board), but that alone is not a reason to keep that station in it's current format. Plus, with that monster signal, I can't help but think Entercom would like to use it for something else.

So, on that note, chime in with your thoughts:

*Will Entercom ditch the Rise Guys or Hawk & Tom, and replace the ditched team with syndcation?

*Will Entercom flip 93.3? (kinda goes against the question I just asked above, I know).

*For you Columbia types, how's the death watch going for 93.5?

No.

I don't see why. If they were going to do it, they would have done so right away, just like they chose Christian/Country over Oldies. They had a long time between purchase and closing to implement any changes if they were to make them.

Can't help you on that one. No clue. <P ID="signature">______________

I don't see 93.5 going anywhere with one exception. WARQ is now clearly just a flanker for Fox 102. Matt Lee and Dave are doing an admirable job of trying to handle what is currently a format experiencing severe audience erosion nationwide. While Alt/Rock stations in some markets may go away, I don't think 93.5 will unless someone signs on a blazing 18-34 oriented AOR/Rock station. At this point in the competitive game, there is no signal to do that with other than 96.7. Certainly, if I were running CCU Columbia, I'd have bailed "Steve-FM" and gone right for the jugular with a variation of CCU's latest AOR formats. A younger male station would go really well with the older-male WVOC. But then again, isn't that 1992 all over again?

Interesting thought about 96.7. Makes me wonder if CC coulda gone with a "Buzzard" format, and moved JB&B there. I'd think that would kill off 93.5 at a minimum, and really hurt Fox.

OK, I can buy that. I guess my thought is that since 93.3 is a flanker for 101.1, and 101.1 is enjoying sucess with JB&B, maybe Entercom would have considered a syndicated morning show complimentary to the format. Lex & Terry comes to mind. Then again, a station isn't always programmed around the morning show.

Again, fair enough. But now, you have me wondering how well oldies would do/would have done on a big signal like 93.3. Hmmmm.....

Great idea Guru. I forgot JB&B were a Premiere/CCU program. Seems like a no-brainer to me. It would help the clsuters male numbers a lot. WARQ was rock in the first place to provide the lower end males for WVOC. I was in on the planning for that back in 1992. The other option back then was CHUrban... except none of us knew squat about how to program it!

With Close to 20 Shares of Country in the Market, Why not launch another Country stick ???
Possible Benefits:
Rock Audience goes to WROQ increasing that station's Rank/Share
WESC and WSSL Drop a few Ranks
Combo Sell the new Country with Magic 98.9/The Walk

Clear Channel isn't/ can't blow up anything they've got to counter - Cox won't care.
Thoughts??

Hmmmm.....I dunno.

As it stands, CC owns country on 92.5, 100.5 & 99.5 (don't forget about them!) An Entercom country station would tie in nicely with Magic & Walk (and possibly WORD to a lesser extent).

I'm not so sure the Upstate could handle all that country though. As much as I'd love to see Planet hang around, I have a nagging feeling they won't be here this time next year. Maybe it's time to swap formats between 93.3 & 101.1?
